Query Letter

Jan 28, 2010 17:18

Hiya all. I've been bullied into submitting my novel to literary agents. Got my first two chapters polished, my synopsis looking decent (no small thanks to Stu and Sagacious C for their help a with that a while back) and now all I have to do is the query letter.

Here it is. Any and all help will be utterly priceless.

Thank you.

I'm the same as Jo. I have never written a query letter and I am nowhere near ready to submit a novel, so I can't offer you any good advice. All I can do is wish you luck and cross my fingers you get that publishing deal! :D

I'll settle for getting my girlfriend off my back. She pretends she wants me to submit because she liked the novel and wants me to 'realise my dreams', but I know she really only wants the jet-set lifestyle and sipping of cocktails on sandy beaches. Franklt, I think it's unlikely to be snapped up: it's not spectacular, it's not a stand-alone and the YA market is totally saturated.

To be honest, I'm far more excited about my current writing project, but that's just me to a T.

Um, it all sounds awesome? *is brain-dead*

I had an idea a while ago that I was thinking of trying myself, but I never will, so: If you can't find a traditional publisher, how about preparing the most awesome, aligned-with-the-stuff-it-needs-to-be-aligned-with teaching guide with assignments and assessments, and shop it to educational publishing companies, or even directly to schools and teachers? And maybe have an electronic component so they can print stuff instead of photocopying, in case they work at an evil school where the photocopier is ALWAYS broken.

Our cover supervisor suggested building a lowest tech possible photo-copying device, probably powered by turning a crank-handle - so that it couldn't possibly break down. I think he'd make a lot of money.

It's great to hear from you.

My genius plan is to find someone who can make a machine that squirts acid into strategic spots to dissolve paper jams. Quick-drying acid. Ta-dah!
