Isabel, this is Professor Chaucer. If you're still interested in the TA position, the job is yours. Stop and see me after class if you would, and we'll go over the details.
"Hey, Isabel? It's Peter. I heard about you going for a doctor on the radio as part of a *ahem* study group. Are you okay? Is everyone else okay? Please let me know."
If Isabel still had her phone, she'd certainly call Peter back and say that she's fine and that everyone else was battered but would eventually be okay. But her phone got turned into to use for tracking purposes and she has no clue where it is at the moment.
"Isabel, this is Geoff Chaucer." [traffic sounds in background] "I'm out of town, and I don't think I'll make it in for class tomorrow. So I'm asking you to take up your TA duties, if you don't mind, and give the class lecture on Julius Caesar. Professor Lyman will be giving a guest lecture during fifth period, and he'll take care of the discussion. So all you need to do is present my part of the lecture once he's finished. My notes are in my office."
"I'm sorry about dropping this on you on such short notice. I really am not the sort of teacher who usually expects his assistants to do his work. And I promise this isn't going to become a regular thing. If you have any questions at all, call my cell phone, anytime."
