1840's Corset

Jan 07, 2011 20:11

The other day I got around to finishing and trying on the mock-up for my next corset. The pattern is an original combo I got from combining my Regency corset (bottom) and Civil War corset (Top). Silhouette wise this made the most sense historically. Right off the bat The result is better than I had hoped for !!!

ooooh, it looks so good. I like the quilting on the gussets but like the interfacing thing can't make a suggestion either way as it's outside my scope.

I hope mine ends up half as good ... when i finally get around to it

I am glad you like the gussets! I thought they looked nice, but most of the examples I found were plain.
I think I just need to do some test samples for the quilting, i'll probably post pictures of them when I have.

Do any of the stays you are making have quilting, or is it mostly all cording?

Mostly all cording, though I think that somwhere I saw bust gussets with quilting. Or was it cording. Hmm, my coffee hasn't made it to my brain cells yet.

I found 2 stays that have cording in the hip gussets. Do you have Jill Salen's "Corsets". The 1840s corded taffeta corset p38-41 has cording on the front and back hip gussets. I's from a private collection so don't know if there's a pic online

In my file of stays/corset pics I have another set of stays, earlier than 1840s, that has 3x3rows of horizontal cording on the front hip gussets and the outline of the hip gussets is also outlined with 3 rows of cording. Foolishly I didn't keep a note of where I found this pic online. I've learned better since then

*Blushes* Thank you :)

-I remember a while back you mentioning you saw True Grit, did you notice in one of the town scenes none of the women where wearing petticoats over their hoops? I had a good laugh to myself about that.
