Astonishing schedule stupidity

Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men #22, which was originally scheduled for 4/18, was supposed to come out this week (7/4, or really 7/5 in the U.S. since there's a holiday). It has now been pushed to 8/15. Issue #23, which was supposed to come out then, is now scheduled for 9/26, although I find that highly unlikely.

Let me emphasize this: #22 is ( Read more... )

Please just get it over with and free up these important characters for more active writers to use!

My feelings exactly. At some point, I cared about knowing where the arcs were going, but now, I want the issues to come out sooner just so it would end already and other writers would write some of these characters. Astonishing has some of the most important X-men characters, and I keep thinking that these characters were more prominent before Joss took over. Joss is holding up these characters, and doesn't Marvel care that the lack of exposure has made these characters, some of its best, less popular? And while Joss is a big name and is probably making them a lot of money, aren't they losing sales because it's coming out every three months or so on average?

And supposedly, Joss is putting everything out on time and Marvel is delaying the comics. Which I might've believed if Runaways issues hadn't started getting delayed too just as Joss took over. This thing has become such a mess now.

I'd heard that the scripts were in on time, too, but I just assumed that if that was even true, then it must be Cassaday's art that's holding things up. I can't imagine why Marvel would want to keep drawing this out if the delay is actually editorial. Maybe they're demanding rewrites to keep from contradicting the titles that actually ship monthly? I don't know. I just really don't get it, and I'm just hoping that Carey gets to play with the Astonishing cast since they showed up in issue #200 of his book, and he's got some gaps to fill in his lineup. Although I'd really rather see Cannonball take over as leader than Cyclops if Rogue isn't able to keep doing it. Because Cannonball kicks ass, and Carey actually remembers that.
