I must be the only person who doesn't like Sound of Music. I like some of the songs in it, but the musical itself just leaves me cold. I know, it's a classic, but I just can't get into it. It doesn't even have to do with gender or race- I just can't get into it. There are a few so-called 'classics' in either film or literature that I feel similarly ( Read more... )

oh, I hate this movie. it's boring and dull and way too long. I watched it a couple weekends ago after it was referenced in one of my favorite comics, and was thoroughly disappointed with the experience.

I find it amusing that I've never seen Gone With the Wind or Breakfast at Tiffany's, either. I'm waiting for someone to call me a witch and burn me at the stake posthaste lol.

Auuugh, THANK YOU. I also found the movie far too long. I kept waiting for it to end already, and when it didn't after the wedding, I just stared at the screen. Come ON, guys! The romance is done! That looked like the point of the movie, Jesus. And then, Nazis. NAZIS. I'm not saying you can't have a good movie with Nazis, but good god.

I love the music to Sound of Music. I watch the movie because I hate skimming through a movie for bits and pieces. lol.

Tried reading "Gone with the Wind" in fifth grade. Had no problem with the book, but quit by the 5th chapter because I could not STAND that woman. The way she played the twins, the way she treated people...no thank you. Pass.

...I have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's. Never wanted to.

You miss absolutely nothing with Breakfast at Tiffany's. It involves a gross, racist portrayal of a Japanese man played by a white guy, and the movie itself is boring.

The music for Sound of Music is nice enough. I do love the epic 'Climb Every Mountain' and the children's songs are cute. I grew up on them! The movie itself, though? Eh.

I like Sound of Music alright (though I enjoyed it more as a kid; don't feel the need to watch it now...), but Breakfast at Tiffany's- Thank you for saying you don't like it either. I just- no. I hated it. Felt Hepburn was horribly miscast (well, she thought that too.) and the movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be a drama, a romance, a comedy. Not that films can't be more than one genre but this was just awkward. And poor Mickey Rooney. His performance is racist as all get out, but he was only delivering what was asked of him...

Gone With the Wind is okay. Its just that it is Four. Hours. Long. which would have been okay but the ending of the story seems so random. They could have ended it any number of places for a more conclusive ending.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is an awkward viewing on the whole, I feel. I never understood wtf the movie was trying to tell me. I quit partially in, but even the intro was strange. It seemed like a random string of events.

Never seen Sound of Music, and I hear Breakfast at Tiffany's was pretty gross and racist.

Not saying there aren't any problems with Gone with The Wind, but I adored it and own the collector's edition DVD. Though I perfectly understand it's not for everyone.

Breakfast at Tiffany's was VERY gross and racist. I...just...couldn't. My friend heard it was good, we both put the movie in, and couldn't sit through the Japanese man as played by Mickey Rooney.

A black friend of mine (I hate saying that, but it's important to mention ethnicity here), hates Gone With the Wind for race problems, and this white girl friend was pissed off that he didn't and kept saying he just didn't understand how much of a female rolemodel Scarlet was and how much of a strong, strong woman she was, and he didn't understand that because he was a man. GAH.

Yeah I heard about Mickey Rooney playing the Japanese man and no, no thank you.

I totally understand that GwTW has race issues as well and hate that fact but I admit I can't help but adore yea, because of Scarlett. But by no means does that blind me to it's issues and I can't believe that woman refused to accept that fact.

She's the same woman who refused to accept me as an asexual, because asexuality doesn't exist and every form of nonfamilial love and aesthetic appreciation has sex tied to it. It didn't surprise me, because she's one of the stupid white feminists who fails at intersectionality. But still, Christ.

I feel like I should give Gone With the Wind a chance, but I think I'll go for the book first. *is a fan of books*
