excuse me, what the actual fuck

So, apparently, some idiot Hetalia cosplayers thought it might be a good idea to perform a Nazi salute during their photo shoot in public, in front of a church, during Easter weekend, DURING PASSOVER AND MERE MILES AWAY FROM A HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL ( Read more... )

is this really happening?, fandom, crushing time now, probably wankbait, stop waving that privilege around, failboat

Here's the link to the post made to hetalia. Turns out that the massive majority of the fandom is PISSED OFF LIKE WHOA, which is heartening. But still, what kind of FUCKERY is this? I mean...WHOA. WHOA.

I'm so offended for so many reasons right now, I can't even comprehend why they'd even think this was sort-of a good idea to do this in public, or do it at all.

I mean, come on, that's a Nazi salute! There's nothing funny about it. There's no good reason why any one of those cosplayers should've done it whatsoever.

My grandmother fled Germany after having most of her family murdered. She was shot at, almost hunted down, and survived on grass during a long, long train ride through the country. I'm fucking enraged that these people have the indecency to use this as a petty in-joke for their little anime photo op.

I don't know. Probably: "Aren't we cool and edgy?"

here, again, is a shining example of how fandom could be something great and amazing and bonding but no, nobody is going to remember how people meet their best friends at cons, or finally get a chance to feel like somebody in a group of like minded individuals.

No, it's going to be moments like this in which a few douche-waffles cast a dark mark over what should be an awesome experience.

I'm not involved in the Hetalia fandom, nor do I have any family that has gone through the horrors that was Germany, but it's a sick thing to do on a humanitarian level. That would be like someone saying 9-11 was a good thing.

I am, however, glad to see this fandom seemingly band together against such obvious fail, this restores a smidgen of my faith in humanity.

I feel really sorry for the people in the Hetalia fandom, because they get a lot of shit already just for being...in the Hetalia fandom. Now people are going to point at this and say: 'lol, Hetalia fans are so full of fail' when really it's just THESE ASSHATS. Kind of like how I cringe when people talk about wanky Avatar fandom and their wanky ship wars.

I mean, Hetalia itself seems to be on a thin line as it is, being entirely about these bishonen representations of the countries during WW2...but that means fans really should be respectful and mindful of wtf they're doing when they prance out there and cosplay as WW2 era Germany/Poland/Japan/ANYONE.

TL;DR sorry. lalachoy April 7 2010, 13:45:22 UTC
As someone in the Hetalia fandom (...I am so horrified to admit this), I would like to say not ALL of us are that freakin' dumb and completely...ugh. Unfortunately, Hetalia has gotten so popular, a lot of morons pop up and do this horrible shit. They're only in it for the pretty boy sex and freakin' lose their mind and forget that OH HEYYY. REAL COUNTRIES. It pisses me off that people did that because who in their right mind thinks that's a good idea? It also pisses me off that someone only apologized for the location. Uh no. Apologize for EVERYTHING. Even if it's historically accurate for your country to do that, DON'T DO IT. Don't dress in nazi uniform either because no. JUST. NO. I'm glad there's so many people who are angry and know this is wrong, but...ugh. They were offensive, horrible, dumb, and gave a bad representation to us all.

I roleplay Poland and let me tell you, I've seen so many roleplayers that do not seem to understand that dude, THESE ARE CHARACTERS PORTRAYING REAL COUNTRIES. Some people even seem to forget that ( ... )

no, dude, i completely understand ivy_chan April 7 2010, 14:11:34 UTC
Yeah, if any of my fandoms pulled something that openly shitty, you bet I'd be on it like white on rice. I'm amazed someone told Poland he was stupid for not forgiving Russia. Have they bothered to read a history book at all?

OMGWTF PEOPLE ROLEPLAY OUT WORLD WARS. FDXFCGVHJKL.

And Nazi uniform? Never a good idea. I don't care if you're Hellsing and your characters regularly wear swastikas, NOT A GOOD IDEA. These people don't seem to get that they're in a damn public space.

Probably not, knowing this person. This person later went on to roleplay France and had France (OF ALL COUNTRIES!) even insult Poland on how he should just forgive Russia already. Even after I fully explained (or had Poland fully explain) just WHY he couldn't forgive him, she had one of her other FICTIONAL characters go into HIS bad past and compare it. This idiot compared a fictional past to a REAL tragedy. It still pisses me off and I still want to go up to her and just smack her.

I haven't seen it very often, but I have seen it before. There were some troll-ish roleplayers who basically told me that I should only be playing Poland from WWII. :/ My reaction was "HAHAHAHAHAno."

The fact there was actually a freakin' "WHY IT IS NOT GOOD TO DRESS AS A NAZI" speech at that con makes this entire thing worse. DID ANYBODY PAY ANY FREAKIN' ATTENTION?

I am amazed that anyone felt the need to hold that panel, which should be obvious, but that people went out and did the Nazi salute right out in public on the same damn day just...wow. Wow.

And that person sounds like an imbecile. So does the person in charge of this photo shoot, who apparently went around groping people in the con prior. This is when you start actively expelling people from the fandom.

Wow, pretty speechless myself. I don't read the manga, just watch the cartoon and hell; I'm glad people (most people) on that board is smart enough to say 'Not fucking cool man'.

It's so...GUH that people would act that way. It's a slapstick portrayal of REAL places, so yo, douch, act with RESPECT.

*facepalms* I'm glad I'm a closet fan of Hetalia..this stuff just makes me rage.

I think in cases like this, the entire sane portion of the fandom should excommunicate their assholes. Looks like they have plenty sane people who know where to draw the line, so some of them should try to do something. I'm still amazed at how that photo shoot went down. There was, according to eye witnesses, a whole CROWD of people watching. There should have been booing, active disgust, and anger. Not people cheering and yelling 'sieg hail'. I'm glad the front row and non-saluters walked out directly afterward, but the CROWD. WTF.
