in which i discuss sleeping beauty syndrome, chocolate, and disney's gender issues

Sleeping Beauty syndrome being what I've decided to diagnose myself with. Not that I actually have the medical problem, which is, apparently, reverse insomnia. It's when a person falls asleep and stays asleep for days. It's an actual medical condition that continues to fascinate me on a purely artistic level. So I think that my constant desire to ( Read more... )

Disney is changing their 'Rapunzel' movie around so it will attract a wider audience. More specifically, a male audience.

... the fuck? Disney, I... I don't even know anymore.

BUT yay for chocolate fountains! \o/

Chocolate fountains do, I admit, alleviate the trauma of Disney batshit yet again. And here I was thinking things were looking up for them with the inclusion of their new princess film. Clearly I was wrong.

It is. It's pure, undiluted heaven. The only thing I can imagine as being more heavenly would be the Sweet 'n Snacks Expo in Chicago.

Isn't it awesome? Isn't it? Everyone should have an amazing chocolate festival around Valentine's Day. And...not have it temporarily snowed out like mine. They had a chocolate sculpture competition as well, but that wasn't very impressive this year. I can only assume it's because they were snowed out the first month.

I will leave proper comments later.

Right now, I hate you. I keep the Christian stuff off LJ as a rule, but it is Lent. And I have given up CHOCOLATE. And you post this.

:(

Oh well, there's no point in a sacrifice if it's easy. I could give up meat, but as I'm already vegetarian, that wouldn't do a lot.

(I don't really hate you... I just love chocolate.)

Heh. I just try to remind myself of the meaning of Lent/Easter every time I deny myself chocolatey goodness. I do try to do heartful/spiritual stuff in Lent too, but the "fast" aspect is tradition and all that... /justification ( ... )

Yes, it pretty much bothers me that Disney is attempting to reach out to a mixed audience at the expense of the girls. The one thing they had going for them, in my opinion, was their acknowledgement of the profitable female demographic. But now it's more like they'll send out plastic barbie beauty for girls to buy and screw them over in the actual movies.

I have a pretty grim outlook for this movie now. I mean, has it occurred to them to, oh, make something other than a princess movie with a female character as a lead? Just a thought!

(And Mulan counts. But not in the merchandising, because even she is marketed as a princess. When she's a soldier.)
