nothing says kickass like a cane and glasses

There is a certain character type that I almost never fail to adore, and that is the Badass Old Lady. The Badass Old Lady comes in many flavors, from refined and elegant to blunt and salt of the earth. But she always remains old, female, and able to whoop ass from fifty miles away, whether it be with the commanding pull of her eyes, her assertive ( Read more... )

It's great, though a little hard to get a hold of. I've spent like five hundred dollars, actually. ^_^;

However, if you're interested, I also have the whole series (the 90's one, anyways) on my computer. Once I figure out how to zip them, I could send them to you if you'd like.

!!! You'd do that for me??? :D

Well, if you happen to figure it out, let me know! It would be cool to read them. There's a comicon in Boston this weekend, I'm going to try to get there at some point and see what's up. Maybe I can find something cool to share in return.

I find Betty White quite awesome (she is the only reason I ever feel the need to rewatch "Lake Placid"), and I also have great love for Judi Dench--is there anyone she CAN'T verbally beat the piss out of?

Angela Lansbury was a top-notch, badass bitch in my book way before she was an old lady. Her role as the lead bordello gal in the 1946 film "The Harvey Girls" scheming to get rid of Judy Garland just makes me tingle.

Bea Arthur is easily one of the most badass old ladies to have ever walked the Earth. If there was a fistfight to determine the champion of the BAMFs, I have no doubt she would rise from the grave and still whip everyone's ass.

BWAAAAA just not getting back to old replies *SHAMED*

She did mostly a lot of TV comedy (Maude, Dorothy in The Golden Girls) but has a stellar cameo in Mel Brooks' The History of the World: Part I as the unemployment clerk. Most of her later stuff was cameos in things like Curb Your Enthusiasm and some roasts, but she just oozes bad-assery.

I had a shamefully hard time thinking up examples of this trope.

My first thought was Izumi from FMA, but I don't think she's old enough to qualify.

Her and M, who is consistently one of the best things about Bond movies.

And Need, who a badass blacksmith who killed herself and put her soul in a sword to help her apprentice get justice on the people who slaughtered her tribe and proceeded aid to women in trouble for hundreds of years.

So I guess what I'm asking is... could you tell me some of your favorite badass older ladies and help me brainstorm?

Frau Totenkinder, Fables
Jessica Fletcher, Murder She Wrote
Tsunade, Naruto
Chiyo, Naruto
Genkai, Yu Yu Hakusho
Hama, Avatar
Lady Hestor, Tea With Mussolini
Lady Tremaine, Disney's Cinderella
