Unpopular Opinions Meme!

People think they are? And here I always just thought they were oberprotective and too busy worrying about how their daughter needed to be protected because she was blind to realize what she really needed. Which isn't exactly abnormal for parents of children with disabilities.

Yeah, there's a nice following of people who enjoy writing the parents as these snobby jerks who disown Toph immediately, or try to marry her off to save face, or verbally abuse her. I'm also of the shocking opinion that Toph did something wrong by running away from home without any parental consent or even informing her parents, and not writing them for god knows how long. Not a great move there.

I made a parent-defending post in avatar_fans some time back, and the Toph defenders stated that she'd done the right thing because she was going to war, and her parents should respect that. (Me: Right, because war is something a child should be in, no matter how extraordinary that child is. Parents should be okay with this. Right.)
