The shelf that Sock was lying on was buckling a little under the strain of the extra weight, but being as absorbed as he was in examining the newest vessel he hadn't seemed to notice. Sam stared up his friend, annoyance spread clearly across his face.

"Sock, would you give me the vessel back?" Sam called up. He would've climbed up to get it back himself, but that shelf looked like it was near breaking point.

"I'm hungry." Sock said in reply.

Sam paled, and wished he still had his telekinesis. "Oh, don't you even think about it."

"I haven't eaten since lunch, Sam. A man needs food to survive." Sam heard the suspicious crumpling of a candy-wrapper from high above.

"I don't think eating the Devil's candy is going to sate your hunger. Besides, you just had lunch ten minutes ago!"

Sock poked his head over the side of the shelf and looked down at Sam. He waved the packet of MnMs above Sam's head. "It's like the forbidden fruit. Except it's chocolate. One bite wouldn't hurt ( ... )

When you lived to be over a millennia old, you began to expect that certain things would never change. The sun would rise in the morning and fall in the evening, time would never be on your side, and humanity would always be a little stupider than you gave them credit for.

She'd lived a thousand years in her body. She'd never been sick. She'd never aged. It was the one thing she expected that would stay constant for the rest of her life. She knew every curve, every line, every hair on her head had its place, it was all regular and normal, until she got herself pregnant and hormones wrecked havoc on her system.

Then bits that had always been small before had started to grow. Her wardrobe, which contained garments that were truly vintage, no longer fitted. Even once she'd had the children, and had had time to work off that "post-baby weight" she wasn't the same as she was before, and it was disconcerting. Her boobs and bum were bigger and hung lower than she was used to. For the first time in years she needed to be refitted for new ( ... )
