Snow and Alcohol... or something.ittykatNovember 21 2007, 00:54:56 UTC
1. Snow's seventeen, it's her wedding day, and she has one too many glasses of the spicy fruit wine. It adds an embarrassing red flush to her alabaster cheeks but makes her wedding night one to remember.
2. Snow's twenty and she's alone in her chambers, wishing she had another bottle of wine because she can still feel the deep pain of betrayal in her stomach. She'll never talk to her sister again.
3. Snow's twenty-five and divorced and alone when rumours of invasion start trickling in from all corners of the country. With a broken heart and a hangover to heal it, she seeks out her sister so that they'll at least be together when the end comes, just as it was when they all began.
4. Snow is thirty and the bitter wine is the colour of her lips and her sister's hair. It is the colour of the blood of a thousand innocent fables dead, and the colour of the scar from the wolf that had saved them from the same fate.
5. Snow is three hundred but looks no older than the day she was married. She drinks the sailor's whiskey as the ship crosses the Atlantic, but expels it and the rest of her dinner when rough seas strike in the middle of the night.
6. Snow is cold, she douses the dying embers with wine to restart the fire. The winters in New Amsterdam are as unforgiving as the invaders from her home land.
7. Snow is older still and happy, as she raises a glass of wine in thanks. New Amsterdam has become New York and new Fables are arriving throughout the day but she is to return to Europe. The witch she and her sister had saved had told her where to fetch the beast that had saved them.
8. Snow is three years older, and finding the wolf had been harder than expected. But the blood that stained the lycanthropy knife matched the new red overcoat they had dressed him in. He was a beast of a man, and had a worse time with the waves of the sea than she, but she did not fear him.
9. Snow is so old she doesn't really remember how old she is anymore. There is blood all over her sister's apartment and there is not enough alcohol to burn the image from her mind. She cuts her hand on a broken glass and the blood is the same colour as her lips and her sister's hair and suddenly the thought of losing her sister forever is unbearable.
10. Snow has never felt younger than she has on her wedding day. She looks thirty but feels seventeen again. She toasts her new husband the wolf with a flute of sparkling champagne, while her sister, the witch, her children and her first husband watch on.
