There seem to be many people leaving, lately. Dozens of people will arrive within a month, yet the population of this village never seems to grow. Not for long, anyway. Does it upset people that people leave or is about being left behind? I'm starting to think there are people who simply don't plan on leaving this place.

I've heard of alchemy a little bit. In my world, alchemists were people who tried to turn lead into gold while looking for the Philosopher's Stone, or something like that. Is that what they do over in your world?

Using alchemy to create gold is forbidden. As for Philosopher's Stones... well, they're not exactly worth the price it takes to make them.

It's complicated. In any case, it's best just to know it's not a good thing.

So if making gold with alchemy isn't allowed and making Philosopher's Stones is bad, then what sorts of things do alchemists do in your world?

In Xing, it's mainly used for medicinal purposes. Our healers are quite skilled at it.

More or less. But you have to study and be smart enough to use it. It's all science, after all.

Ah...yeah, I guess that makes sense. Alchemy was like an early form of chemistry in my world. [She's meh on chemistry, herself.] Do you do alchemy, then?

Not at all. I haven't had times for things like that.

More or less. I don't really think I have the head for it.

Yeah, I get that. I guess science-y things are kind of interesting, but I'm not really that good with it.

I prefer to just leave it to people who know what they are doing. It's less trouble for everyone.
