Three To Go - [Action/Voice]

There seem to be many people leaving, lately. Dozens of people will arrive within a month, yet the population of this village never seems to grow. Not for long, anyway. Does it upset people that people leave or is about being left behind? I'm starting to think there are people who simply don't plan on leaving this place.

[Maybe it's just ( Read more... )

It is kind of nice to be here. I still miss people that I knew from back home, and I kind of wish they were here, but...I don't mind being on my own. [Not too much. She feels like a grown-up!]

Whoah, really? That's so cool! [You know, when you're not evading assassination attempts and shit like that.]

Thanks. But it's really not a big deal here. I don't even have anyone to make my dinners for me.

I think I can kind of understand that. Back home I'm a superhero, but I can't tell most people about my superhero identity. But that sort of thing doesn't matter here.

... a superhero? [She doesn't seem the type, really.]

Mm-hmm! I work for a show called HeroTV as a superhero named Dragon Kid, with the ability to create and control lightning. Erm...do they have television in your world? [She already ran into this problem once, so now she tries to make sure on this topic.]

Television... that's like motion pictures, right?

[You don't see films except in a theater back in his world. Ling is familiar enough with the concept after his time in Luceti, at least.]

You mean movies? Yeah, it's kind of like that, only you don't have to go to a theater to see them. [Technically she doesn't have to go to a theater to see movies in her world, either. Thank dragons for torrenting online streaming and Webflix.] You can watch TV shows on a TV set at home. There's all sorts of things on TV, like news and cartoons and stuff.

And you're the star. As a superhero. [Interesting.]

Ah, I'm not really the "star". There are other heroes on the show, too, and some of them are way more popular than I am.

N-not that I care about that sort of thing that much! It's more important to be able to help people. [While also promoting your sponsors! Pao-lin's happy to do that as long as it means she can still help people.]

Then why be on this 'show' if you're more concerned about helping people? It seems like it would just be a hassle.

[The enthusiasm drops slightly from her tone.] Well, it is, kind of. [After all, why does it matter so much whether she talks and acts more like a boy? She still helps people and promotes her sponsors!] But it's nice to be able to help people using my powers, and I wouldn't be able to do that if I weren't on HeroTV, because many people are still kind of scared of people like me. If they see I'm an official Hero, then they'll trust me more.

[Aha. He is starting to see something see something here.]

Your powers scare them. How did you get them?

[She shrugs, though Ling probably can't see it.]

Not really sure. They just started to show up when I was 6 years old. People have been researching NEXT -- that's people like me who have powers -- but even now no one's really entirely sure what causes NEXT to develop their powers.

That's interesting. We don't have anything like that where I'm from. The only ones with powers get it from alchemy, one way or another.
