He watches them-the others, who are supposed to be like him, but aren't.
The girls laughing and shrieking as they run round the playground, their ponytails streaming out behind them. The boys whooping and jeering as they chase after them, hunt them down-
No! He is not allowed to join in.
Cheeks scorching, he sits very still, pushes both fists into his eyes, and thinks cold thoughts: ice-cream... paddling pool... painted concrete... car park... demon.
He watches them-the others, who are supposed to be like him, but aren't-and simply can't understand why they don't remember it too.
