[Discussion] Location in Fics

Hello folks,

I am posing this question in my community rather than my personal journal because I would like to get as many opinions as possible.

My question is this: Does it matter/bother you if the boys are in a location other than Korea in fic? And for that matter does inserting American culture/names into a Korean atmosphere change how you ( Read more... )

I'm not very specifics where the setting is or how they are characterize(if there's such a word), they can go by their Korean names(That I prefer) and act more like American or European or even be someone from South America and speak Spanish and I would'nt care. It's fiction, so I think the writer should be free to explore however s/he wants the characters s/he's writing about or the settings of it, especially if it will help with making the story even more interesting especially if it's in AU settings :D

Yes, finally someone who's as peeved by this as I am. I understand the whole "write about what you know" motto, but things have to be consistent.

I hate it that they keep their Korean names, but suddenly their family has American names.

I don't mind as much that they take them out of Korea and say they were raised in USA or whatever. Then I won't even mind that Jae cooks american food, uses american brand clothes and stuff... Even if most Asian families I know that live outside Korea don't give up on their food!

But I hate stories that put them in Seoul and cooking clearly american dishes. It seems lazy, inconsistent, and dumb. Especially, since I'm not american it makes it even harder to relate.

when i read fics i always tend to picture them in an asian setting, i guess i just got used to reading dbsk hyung and kimchi along the same line.
it's cool if they are at another country ie. europe but i'd prefer it if they have asian features, like the dynamics of the younger and older members. like Jaejoong and Aunt Ethel? it's too....fake. but bacon and french toast is okay because food doesn't matter.

i think what's more impt is that the author actually has authentic asian cultures mixed with the european culture if the setting were to be overseas~

I, honestly, do not know about all this.

What I do know is that I am a little in love with your fics. Keep up the good work (:
