I haven't really posted anything about what's going on in my life recently, so instead of reading these annoying papers on genetic canalization, I'm going to post! I've got a backlog of book reviews and whatnot, too, but that'll have to wait. Here's the CliffsNotes version of my semester so far ( Read more... )

We were actually thinking of naming one of our cats Loki.

We named him Rhys but I still think that the other name would have fit him very well. The little bastard.

Sounds like you've got a full plate. Sorry to hear about your shoulders but congratulations on getting to the Major Editor's desk!

The little bastard.

Ah, cats. It's a good thing they're so cute, or it'd be tempting to ring their little furry necks.

Rhys also loves to be in water.

It's kinda weird. But anyways. He is a bastard. He moved his water bowl around and got water everywhere. On our hardwood floor. Grrr.

What's I Liq Chuan?

I Liq Chuan is a newish Chinese martial art that draws heavily on old-school Tai Chi and southern kung fu styles.

hey, my catling, Sparkle, also pounces toes. She has managed to convince herself that if it's under a blanket and therefore not visible as a human body-part to her, it's fair game for sticking her paw at, under the blanket, claws extended... even if it is clearly a limb that, were it not under a blanket, she would not claw. sometimes i feel like she's aware of this and taking advantage of my lack of ability to communicate with her properly about it.

so maybe you should rename Rowan "Spark", and then there could be Spark and Sparkle!

It's so true. They totally pretend to not understand when it's convenient for them, and then their communication skills miraculously improve when it's food time, etc. It's willful misunderstanding.
