I took the insurance buyout. There was not enough money to get the thing fixed. In the past 120 days, we spent over $5000 in maintenance. We got about half that for the buyout. Now we are down to two cars, the Subaru is at the top end of the mileage spectrum, so I need to plan on replacing it soon. We need three cars (or we will in the fall

'Cash for Clunkers' was just one more stupid idea out of this administration. I'm given to understand four of the ten vehicles most frequently PURCHASED as "clunker" replacements were gas-guzzling SUVs and trucks, including Hummers. Yeah, that really helped save fuel...
