I love that the show didn't take itself too seriously to completely overdo all the 'preparing for mission' shots and make NINJA JOKES. ninja jokes! also, the reactions of the specialist workers to their new bland food was HILARIOUS.
not to mention the trailer. I have a weakness for doctors, what can I say? and I've loved Fred so far, I'm so pleased it looks like there'll be more about him.

Poor JJ! That dog attack was brutal! Him lying in the hospital covered in bandages. He's going to be scarred after that. Did anyone else want to slap the dog's owner for his indifferent reaction to the attack and claiming it was an accident and the dog didn't mean any harm? Good on Harry for telling him that she's going to bring him down. I think I cheered when the owner got killed. Danny holding both Harry and JJ's hands and telling them that he loves them both was just so cute. JJ getting cranky and Danny telling him to take a "chill pill" was so funny. OMG Cliffhanger of Doom (TM)! The closeup of JJ's scarred wrist as he was handcuffed... Heartbreaking.

Oh, okay, let me tear myself from Tumblr for a few minutes to express my delight, horror and dismay about this episode.
First of all, oh god the gore. I do like that this show doesn't shy away from the sheer awfulness of war. I liked Captain Brooks very much, and I really hate to watch him get torn apart like that. God.
And the theme of modern warfare and its clashes with centuries old traditions of how to conduct yourself in the battlefield. Because, you know, an officer with a revolver sure does stand a chance between machine guns and mustard gas.
I'll get off my soapbox now.
Delightfulness:
+ FIRST OF ALL. ARMITAGE AND FASSBENDER IN THE SAME SCENE. THEY WERE LEANING AGAINST EACH OTHER. My screen nearly melted with the sheer hotness. Perhaps they'll out ~mysterious~ each other, LMAO. Whoever did the casting for this show is clearly a fangirl. I approve.+ I hate that Miles got hurt, but maybe he and Helen can get bonding now. At least she'd be able to stop him from brooding right ( ... )

Lots of interesting stuff in this episode. Interesting to see a middle-aged woman as a 'sensei' figure instead of an elderly Asian man. I like that she remained sympathetic, even after we found out that it's her subconscious anger that's doing all the damage.
Also, backstory for Wafiya! Do I detect traces of the story of Prince Ahmed and Paribanou?

Nice this episode gave Jaime and Charlie a chance to do some problem-solving on their own, and their conversation about how Jaime's starting to come to terms with his "animal problem" was so sweet!
