I read this yesterday on my phone in my car while stuck in stopped traffic on a highway. I was actually sad when cars started to move before I'd entirely finished! New chapters of good fic should always be posted while I'm stuck in really boring places. That worked out well for me. Good timing. ;)

Of course then I didn't get a chance to actually sit down at my computer and write feedback until just now, so I've been feeling a bit guilty about it for the last 24 hours or so, but still.

I loved the scene with Hal and Snow. Interesting to see the shift in dynamic when Hal is no longer the one at the top.

Rook actually requesting Cutler's company! I like it. ;) Also, "rookery." Yes, good.

The clean-up was... It was a carnage. We found her plucking a guard's insides out, in human form.”
Hal's eyes lit up.

Yikes! Nice bit of horror. And Hal's reaction is great.

And then the entire second half. So violent and so hot. And this line:
“I didn't say I was God. I said I was your God.”Gah ( ... )

Traffic can be evil. >_< But I'm glad the story made it a bit less unbearable. :)))
I've always liked Snow and I always thought he was a bit of wasted opportunity too. He's genuinely creepy (Hatch is an amateur compared to him; Snow doesn't need magic to be scary as hell) and Mark Gatiss is very talented, so it'd have been awesome if we'd had Snow as a recurring villain like Herrick. Unfortunately, I also find him hard to write))) But this scene with Hal was fun to work on. Hal likes to make it look like he's the biggest fish in the sea, but 4x08 shows how scared he is of Snow and that doesn't change here. XD And Snow definitely gets a kick out of checking up on him and fueling Hal's paranoia. XD
Tbh I don't know if Hal is a shrink's dream or their nightmare. XDD
Thank you so much for reading! <333 What the show did (or rather didn't do) with Rook's character is still one of the things I'm very bitter about. T_T

So, more cockblocking and more of Rook's self-analysing to start out with.

Was he aiding humanity or was he merely playing the game? - A very good question! That's one of the things I love about this story. <3 Even Rook, who is trying to have good motivations, is being warped and compromised by the situation he finds himself in. The situation he's agreed to.

Another near-miss with Rook/Cutler. These two are building up some serious UST! XD Bring it on!

Rook's been trying to rein himself in for so long, it couldn't go on indefinitely. And now he's finally cut loose. Bradley was the catalyst -- and, oh, didn't Hal just enjoy that. Well done Fergus! :) -- but at the end of the day, Rook was only doing what he wanted to do all along. He doesn't just hunt, he doesn't just kill, and he doesn't just enjoy it -- he actually toys with his victims. “Now, now, where are my manners? Let me help you, miss.”Quite a change, but it doesn't stop there. You know I like to see our vampires romping in churches and killing priests. ( ( ... )

He doesn't just hunt, he doesn't just kill, and he doesn't just enjoy it -- he actually toys with his victims. He's got a very masterful teacher XDDD
You know I like to see our vampires romping in churches and killing priests. (Don't judge me! :P) We can't judge b/c SO DO WE XDDDDD
Hal's ways of having fun are quite worthy of what Kirby described in 4x04. XD
This is rapidly becoming one of my favourite pairings. Welcome to our fandom of 2 people XDDDD
Hal/Cutler will forever be my OTP, but I have to say it's fun writing this b/c as you said, it's different. :))
I'm glad you find Rook's characterisation good. I doubt we can ruin him more than s5 did, but I'm still entitled to my writerly paranoia. XD
Haha, I kneeeew you'd like Mr Snow! XD He's the ultimate jack-in-a-box, he just keeps popping out and being creepy XD Also fun to write.
Thanks again for the lovely comment. <333 I'm happy you're enjoying the story!

Busy weeks are evil. T_T
Cutler is a genuine pleasure to write (though most of the credit goes to Shiro there XD) because he lightens up the mood of this crazy story. XD At least as far as I'm concerned.
Snow creeping Hal out will never be not funny. XD Or maybe it's just me being eternally grrrr! at Hal. Last night I was thinking about him and I had some meta-worthy thoughts on why he annoys me so much. I wonder if I should bother writing it all down or if it's just me spitting venom again. Writing him in his evil incarnation is definitely more gratifying, which is a pity because I used to love both sides of him.
I'm glad Rook's development is working. :)) He was wronged by series 5 - probably more than any other character because at least with Tom and Hal we had time to see them in good writing and Alex was (imho) only ruined a bit towards the end (but then I mostly adopt the approach of Ilona Costa Bianchi from Angel to The Last Broadcast: "It is a filthy thing, and we shall speak of it no more!" XD ( ... )

I read a meta earlier on Tumblr about how wonderful Hal is and how everyone lets him down WHY do you persist in hurting yourself? XDD
