... Is "Fly" basically what the name implies?

It's exactly what it sounds like. It's a powerful flying type move, and you can use it to ride on your Pokémon.

You can travel a week's distance in half a day, easy.

[boy that sounds super useful! only...]

What's the catch?

You don't get it until you beat the sixth gym. By then, you'll have spent at least a few months on the road.

I knew it...

But on the positive side, it makes backtracking much easier, and you'll have to do that in order to get the last two badges.

I've read about badges, but... Do you mostly just get them to make things easier?

Depends on who you're dealing with.

Some people think they're a ticket home. I doubt it.

I'm collecting the badges to prove I'm the best. Better than the Gym Leaders, anyway.

I guess that's better than sitting around.

Exactly. It's something to do. Plus, somebody's gotta show those gym leaders who's boss.

Are they really that bad?

They only stick to one type of Pokémon, which makes them easy to beat.

Shouldn't they be smarter than that if they're gym leaders?

See, that's what I thought. They're supposed to be elites, but newbie trainers can take them down easily.

That's sounds pretty embarrassing.

Exactly. I've been here a year, and I can outmatch people who were born here. That says a lot.
