I'm really looking forward to it and am grateful to you for pointing it out! I'm sure I'll see a lot more on a trip like that than left to my own devices. The itinerary really does sound great.

I've just been looking through your "hiking" tag on your other journal. You must have really wowed them on the trip approval form!

Did you do a post long ago on getting hiking poles for the first time? Or am I thinking of someone else? I've never used them, but see they recommend them for the trip.

I don't think I did a post on using them for the first time, but I might have done one (on the other journal) on how awesome they are. I really like using a pair of poles - they give stability crossing rivers or logs, support going downhill, extra oomph going uphill, and are useful for fending off overly-friendly dogs!

I'll have to get some. I hadn't thought about the balance for crossing logs aspect.

I hope the trip isn't going to interfere with your race schedule for next year!

There are cheap ones and not-so-cheap ones, of course. The more you pay the lighter they are, in general, and/or are telescoping so they can be easily fastened to a pack or packed away when not in use. The brand I have is Leki but there are several others.

Unfortunately it means I will miss a particular race I always enjoy, but there's nothing I've signed up for yet.

I am so sorry to be ridiculously late! Only to say, it would an absolute pleasure to meet - please do let me know a little nearer the time when would be good: I will be free. Have fun planning as well - it's going to be glorious!
