Here is this year's punkin:

melannen (who is on JF these days as melannen_jf) has come up with the major arcana for the 2008 election.
0 - the Fool - Joe the Plumber - represents all of us! The common man, the questioner, the complete idiot we just wish would go away.
And that's just the first one. Seriously awesome. Go read!

Hmm, it appears as though I am conflating Halloween and Election Day. This is unsurprising considering how much they have in common. (Insert joke about scary things and/or Sarah Palin costumes here.) So, here is some music in honor of these very similar holidays, all on my server so pls right-click save or use DownThemAll, which I always mentally parse as Down the Mall:

Harry Belafonte - Zombie Jamboree: I first heard this song at an SF convention when the group Clam Chowder, some of whom were friends of mine, covered it. They sang the Kingston Trio's lyrics, and if anyone has the Kingston Trio's version (or any others), I would love it! [ETA: thank you, tzikeh!] This version, which I just got from mrs_laugh_track (*smooch*!) is a bit different but I like it too!

Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London: classic. Every radio station is playing this song today.

Oingo Boingo - Deadman's Party: Not quite as classic, but still, it's a song I associate with Halloween.

Neil Young - Let's Impeach the President: guess you missed your chance, Neil. Let's see how this new one does.

Roy Zimmerman - Defenders of Marriage: this one goes out to the Yes on Proposition 8 folks!

Christine Lavin - We Are the True Americans: and this one goes out to people who don't hate freedom. You know who you are.

If you only want a sample, get the Defenders of Marriage song. It's the funniest thing I've heard in ages, and alas, oh so relevant.

Tonight I will be handing out candy to all the ghoulies and ghosties who knock on my door. On Tuesday I will be poll-watching and possibly door-knocking afterward, and then we are having a huge election-night party at the arthouse theatre to watch the returns on the big screen. There are some contentious local and state races as well as the Big One.

Final PSA: if you live in Colorado and are voting by mail, get that vote in! County clerks must receive ballots by 7pm Tuesday or it doesn't count. This is one case in which being postmarked by the right date is not enough!

shiny, photos, random silliness, politics, music
