A few collected pointers to things you may find enhance your lj, fandom, and general computer-related experience. Some of these are applicable only to users of particular programs or operating systems.

Firefox

Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension which lets you to add bits of DHTML ("user scripts") to any web page to change its behavior. Most of the items below are Greasemonkey user scripts.

Semagic

How to clean up your Semagic tag list to get rid of community tags.
How to make separate tag lists in Semagic for separate communities and your personal lj. (Thanks to ptyx and soulstar for these tips.)
(And if you don't already use Semagic, it's a wonderful lj client for Windows systems and is available here.)

del.icio.us

Firefox extension delicious Complete allows you to easily switch among multiple delicious accounts when tagging with right-click. I love this. (Thanks to lim for the pointer.)

Greasemonkey script Ad stripper removes the ads that appear in the sidebar when you do a search.

Word count:

Firefox extension Word Count does a wordcount on a web page. I've always cut and pasted into UltraEdit for finding the lengths of stories I want to rec; now I can just click! (Thanks to barkley for the pointer.)

Livejournal (these are all Greasemonkey scripts):

LJ Ads Butler removes ads (which you only see if you're not a paid user, anyway). ETA: florahart points out this is against LJ's TOS, apparently. My primary account is paid, so I mostly don't care, but I have several "basic" accounts for various purposes and I am happy to not see ads when looking at "plus" friends.

LiveJournal_Kill_Navbar removes the navbar from journals which "always display" it.

LJ Thread Unfolder with "Unfold all" gives a link that you can click to unfold all nested comments on a page. It only works with some journal styles, but it works with the default and format=light, so that's all I need. I love this.

LJ Friend-Of Unhide lets you be nosy. :-)

killfile works with lj and other blogs to hide comments of users you don't want to see. You can still see their usernames and optionally view their comments. (Thanks to lim for the pointer.)

Also there is the very useful javascript style=mine button code that I originally got from isilya: javascript:if(location.hostname.indexOf('livejournal.com')%20>=%200){location.search+=(location.search?'&':'?')+'style=mine';}
Put that in a bookmark and put it on your bookmarks toolbar to have an instant style=mine button. You can use the same basic code to make a format=light button, and a multidelete=1 button which is useful for deleting bunches of memories.

lj, interesting pointers
