Nice. You captured a Veronice-style narrative voice there at the beginning and the end especially.

I like this bit of it the best:

It’s a rude awakening to be sure, being pushed down the rungs of the social ladder one by one. And Catilin’s attitude never boded well for her survival of that. That is why, when Wallace tells me, a week later, that Catilin’s family has transferred her to another school, I am not only unsurprised, but envious.
