Step One
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
Surf around your f'list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals, or
wish_list) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
This has been tons of fun going around to people's lists to see if I could contribute. If I haven't visited yours yet, please link it to me in comments. :D
In the Spirit Wishes
- Volunteer in your community. Many of the most satisfying experiences of my life have come from volunteer work. You make a difference and you often get to see tangible results.
- Buy Fair Trade Chocolate. You can make a difference to help end child slave labor in cocoa farming.
- Smile genuinely to strangers. It's nice to be acknowledged as a person in the anonymous rush of modern life. A simple, pleasant exchange could make both your days!
- Forgive yourself for whatever it is you've done (or not done). You've made what amends you can, forgive yourself and allow yourself to live without that burden.
Fannish Wishes
- Stuff my fandom_stocking. (When it's available.) My stocking is here. :)
- Feedback/comments for any of my fanfic. Comments are love. If someone would send me concrit via private message or email, I'd dearly love it. I'm trying to improve my writing, but my writer ego is fragile enough not to want to hack it publicly.
- Betas (especially of the "grammar nazi" variety) for holiday exchange fics: 12days_of_clois, jbbs, worlds_finest Gift Exchange and yuletide.
- A beta willing to tear apart my draft of the Young DC Overview for sequentialcrack. It is too big and needs cutting and possibly reorganizing.
RL Wishes that Don't Cost Money
- Recipes for fudge. I love making holiday fudge and trying new recipes and types. Please share yours with me.
- Recs for neo-swing music. My favorite bands are Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Blue Plate Special, Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra, Indigo Swing, Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, and Royal Crowne Revue. I also really like Diana Krall when she's covering Nat Cole Trio. Any recs for other bands or performers I might enjoy?
- Silly stories. I love stories that revel in the ridiculous, especially when they come from real life. Please tell me yours or rec one you know.
RL Wishes that Cost Money
- Paid time or extra userpics from LJ or paid Dreamwidth account.
- Anything on my Amazon wishlist.
RL Wishes that Cost A Lot of Money
- AquaZoo Family Membership, Silver membership to the science center, or education membership to Soundbridge. We homeschool and really use these every year.
