Stupid, ignorant people are stupid.

So, livejournal showed me this, and it just made me angry.  When did admitting that you're completely ignorant on a subject make you more qualified to comment on it than someone who is well acquainted with whatever it is you're attempting to talk about?  You can say that his post is satire all you want--but it certainly doesn't read like satire to ( Read more... )

Ok, so, there is this book series I read when I was in elementary school, yeah? It's called Deltora Quest. When I was young, I liked the books because they had easy vocabulary, action, and mystery, and were short. As I grew older, I read them over and over again, and each time I found something I missed, and began to see it differently. Now it's no longer about magic and dragons and scary monsters. Yeah, it's about those things, too, but the book is about making a stand, how things still have a chance to get better even when it seems all odds are against you, how just a simple act of kindness or defiance can change so much for the better. I still love the books to this day, and I'm considered a legal adult. Doesn't make the books any less good ( ... )

Huh. Well this is someone who obviously thinks everyone reads voraciously and reading is easy for everyone so they are just being lazy by reading something he perceives as (from a literary perspective) non intellectual or not worthwhile. That is just not the case. I find it a sad that he would make a judgment on someone solely based on reading material. What if this is someone reading it to determine if it's appropriate for their kids to read? What if this is someone who has difficulties reading? Many people have difficulties reading so anything they read is an effort ( ... )
