Vol. 32 顔 Face
「I think one's face is created by the power of expressions more than features. For this reason especially, I want to convey my sincere love with my expressions more than words.」
This was taken on the sofa in the waiting room before the live broadcasting of September 1st’s “Going”. This expression doesn’t have a particular meaning, but since it looks odd to show off despite taking the picture myself, I tried to pull off a weird face. Even though this is just before a live broadcast, I'm quite relaxed, aren’t I?
Since I was a kid, I've always been an “acting cool man”, styling my hairstyle until precision or shaping my eyebrows, but honestly, it wasn't at the level of “I love myself!”. Of course, I'm far away from the ideal face and I have complexes. There have been times when I’ve thought, “I wish my nose was more high-bridged”, or “I don't like my oval-shaped face”. I'm in this [entertainment] world but I'm absolutely not a handsome man. In my very own agency there are truly handsome men like Takizawa (Hideaki)-kun or Yamapi, but I also think there are many other celebrities who are more handsome than Kamenashi Kazuya. At least, I think I'm not the type that can sell with only his face (laughs).
On the other hand, I also think that a man's coolness isn't decided by his “face” alone. For example, Kimura (Takuya)-kun is of course handsome, but if we take only the face into consideration , there are people who have even more well-formed features. Nonetheless, Kimura-kun continues being synonymous of a cool man. I think this is because he creates the atmosphere from his inner side, and because he's good in producing himself.
I'm often said “You're cool” too, which is something that I’m grateful for. While I think that, given my work, it's probably something like a greeting, I'm honestly happy. Because by being praised by a large number of the general public, I can continue being here without forgetting or doubting myself with, “Am I really that cool?”. In order to be the “Kamenashi Kazuya” everyone wants, the desire of doing a look mantenance grows too. See, if you can't feel even a single atom of beauty in the face of the guy who says in a CM “Panasonic Beauty”, it'd be a problem, wouldn't it? (laughs) So when I'm filming a drama or a movie I go to the gym and temper my body, and skin care becomes an important daily routine too. Likewise, at the same rate, in my private time I want to be as sloppy as possible while I relax. That change of switch is fun. That is, the face I have during filming and the face I have when I'm on holiday is totally different. When I'm doing a job which gives tension, I feel like the parts of my face gather to the center (laughs). Now I'm looking at myself so the face of “Kamenashi Kazuya” that changes every day is interesting to see. I want to continue enjoying a face that keeps changing as experience piles up.
I want to touch every corner of the face of the girl I love.
In the end, a face is more about expressions than features. I’d wonder if isn't the power of expression. Girls I meet for the first time often get shy around me saying, “don't stare at me like that”. Despite me just looking at them normally, I'm said, “a beam comes out of your eyes” (laughs). Is this professional bias again? it’s probably because, during lives, I'm trying to convey feelings toward thousands of girls using my glance, and because I have learned to express feelings through expressions when I work as an actor.
Since I think that a person's heart is shown more by their attitude and expressions than words, I'm naturally inspecting when I look someone in the face, and whatever I read through it, I consider important. This is especially true for romantic love. More than features, I'm attracted by girls with fascinating expressions, and I like girls who can carry a conversation with their face. A girlfriend saying “I hate you” while having a “I love you” face is the supreme cute. I want to pinch her cheeks without realizing (laughs) I like touching the face of the girl I like. I want to stare hard at a point-blank range and try to touch every corner. I mean, that's an action only lovers can do, and I’d wonder if it isn't exactly this behaviour itself that is a manifestation of love. There are many girls who want us to express love in words, and I am among the ones who think to properly say them for her. But the real thought is that, as a man, I want to express love not with words but with my face or attitude. The more the relationship becomes deeper, the more I want us to be linked by something that isn’t words. So I'm thinking it'd be nice if I could become someone with a face that can pull off more and more rich expressions.
Kame’s fixed point of observation
Kamenashi-kun sees his “face” change every year, every moment. He is self-aware too saying “maybe it changes depending on my mood and physical condition”, and indeed the aura is completely different from last month's shooting. Somehow his face looks firmed up...... “Isn't it because I'm training my body by going to the gym to prepare for the drama filming? Before CM shootings, I tighten my body at once with a meal restriction, but with training I lose weight naturally and my physical condition is good too. It's the ideal condition for both body and spirit”.

Uh well at least he understands that not eating for 1 week in order to lose weight for Panasonic CM isn't healthy... so why does he do it? XD But I agree with his reasonment about expressing love through actions instead of words. :D
