Summary: Everything was going well for Kazuya Akanishi. He had an awesome and drop-dead hot (not to mention rich) husband that loves him very much, supportive parents and equally supportive in-laws, crazy but otherwise loyal friends...and to top it off, he had just been promoted to being a director of the biggest interior design company in New York. His life was perfect. Until his husband's past came back to haunt them. And with this past, certain things are revealed and these things threatened to destroy the perfect life Kazuya thought he had.
A/N: The plot of the first half of this whole multi-chap is taken from a Filipino movie with the same title (One More Try) but the elaboration on the second half will be entirely my own. I've also twisted some details on the movie to make it more AKAME-ish and to fit it to the story.
Also, their names are in the american way - first name and then surname - because the setting is in New York.
And thanks to

Chapter 1
"Jin? Jin honey, wake up..."
A lazy smile formed on the handsome face of the man currently lying on the king bed in the center of the tastefully decorated room.
"Hon, come on...We're going to be late if you don't get up now."
He felt his shoulder being nudged a tad forcefully but he still kept his eyes closed, his face partially burrowed on the pillow so his smile would be hidden.
He was waiting for something...something that the person currently waking him up would definitely do…something that he would like-
"Oh fine!" And then there were lips on his cheek - lingering for a while before dropping on his neck, his shoulder, then back to his face, on his closed eyelids and finally, on his own smiling lips that he finally revealed - kissing him, loving him.
It's the best way to wake up.
He opened his eyes slowly to see the most beautiful, sexy, and just plain gorgeous man he had ever seen - his husband, Kazuya. His grin got wider.
"Must you insist on waking up like that, you big baby?" Kazuya's teasing tone - his smile and eyes more so - took away the accusatory sting of his words.
"Good morning, pretty. Are you my breakfast today?" Jin teased back.
"Hmm..." Kazuya played along. "Nah! I'm too delicious for breakfast. Perhaps for dinner later?"
The seductive wink, along with the fact that his husband was wearing nothing more than a towel on his waist because he just came out of the shower, made Jin groan and reach for the other man. In one swift movement, he pinned Kazuya on the bed and climbed on top of him.
"Nope, I decided I want you for my breakfast," Jin stated, lust evident in his eyes as he stared at the man beneath him.
Kazuya felt his husband's growing erection and groaned. "We don't have time, hon. I need to be in the company in less than an hour and you-" Kazuya's statement was broken by a loud moan as Jin's hand worked wonders on his shaft. He didn't even realize Jin had removed the towel that was the only thing separating them because Jin sleeps in the nude. "Ahhh...Jin...haa...N-ahh-not...haa...now."
"You're a director now, Kazu. That gives you a right to be a bit late. Besides..." Jin leaned in to bite Kazuya's earlobe gently before whispering seductively, "I'll do you real fast, you still might make it on time."
Kazuya almost gave in. Almost. He stopped Jin's hand, brought it up and interlaced their fingers. Then he gave Jin a serious look. "I don't want to be late on my first day as director, Jin."
Jin pouted sulkily. He hates it when Kazuya denies him sex especially when the mere presence of the man was erotic.
But he perked up with Kazuya's next words.
"You can use toys on me tonight."
Kazuya wasn't usually keen on using sex toys and it had been fine with Jin but then Kazuya's friend recently gave them several different types of those things and Jin had been curious since then.
"Really!? All of them?"
Kazuya laughed at the childish excitement on Jin's face that really didn't match the topic they were talking about. "Not all, silly. Koki gave us a whole box, remember? I still need to work tomorrow. But you can use two."
"Three. Let me use three and I'll let you go," Jin bargained.
"Fine." Kazuya kissed Jin's lips. "Now let me change into my clothes and set the table while you take a bath. I already cooked breakfast earlier."
"'Kay. I love you, Kazuya Akanishi."
"Love you too, Jin Akanishi."
After the breakfast, Jin dropped him off at Symmetry, the company he works for. They have two cars but they usually just use one for work because what kind of married couple would want to be in separate cars?
"Good luck on your meeting," he said to Jin.
"I prefer a good luck charm." Jin pouted suggestively at him.
He laughed, leaned down and rested his arm on the car window before kissing Jin.
"Hmm, that's more like it. Okay, off you go. Don't get too stressed 'kay?"
Throughout the day, Kazuya was smiling. He was happy, so freaking happy that his parents - who visited him earlier - had in fact teased him about it.
"We just stopped by on our way to Jin's parents," his father told him.
"It's good to know you're all getting along so well."
It really was a relief because at first, he was nervous about how his parents would take the fact that their son had taken another man's surname.
"It can't be helped. We can see our children deliriously in love so it'd be odd if we're not on good terms as well," his mother teased.
They could tease all they want. He didn't really mind. Besides, his smile was undoubtedly good for business. It set the nervous new designers at ease and made the clients want to choose their company.
So everything was perfect.
Half an hour after lunch break, his cellphone rang and without looking up from the design he was studying, he answered it. "Kazuya Akanishi speaking."
"Hi Pretty!"
Kazuya beamed full on at the sound of his husband's voice. "Hi. How was your meeting? Went okay?"
Jin is an architect and he is managing his own architectural company.
Their jobs are so closely related and that is why they understand each other so well professionally speaking. It was also the reason why they met.
"This man is just too hard to deal with! God! You!"
Kazuya jolted when the ranting senior designer pointed at him. "Yes Ma'am?" At least, he didn't stutter.
"What's your name?"
"Kazuya Kamenashi, Ma'am," he answered, mentally cursing his bad luck for being the one under the scrutiny of one fuming lady that was obviously very pissed-off.
"Kazuya Kamenashi huh? Well, don't just stand there! Go find Architect Jin Akanishi and tell him I have no intention of ruining his oh so wonderful piece of art and therefore, he should STOP MEDDLING IN THINGS THAT DOESN'T CONCERN HIM ANYMORE!"
He shivered but thankfully no one noticed - or cared. Apparently, it was a common occurrence in the company. Designers become too stressed and blow up on someone unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, it was indeed not something that was out of the ordinary.
But for a 24 year old newbie like Kazuya, it was downright scary.
Fortunately for him, the Jin Akanishi his senior designer asked him to look for was not as pissed.
He even helped him calm his nerves by giving him some tea, saying "it's not your fault" and "it's got nothing to do with you that Kelly is a bitch".
He eventually found out that Jin didn't agree with the interior design that Kelly (the senior designer) proposed for the house that Jin had made.
"It just doesn't fit with the concept of the whole freaking house!"
Jin told the celebrity - yes, that meant high-profile client in their book - to reconsider the designer handling the deal.
The celebrity heeded Jin's words because he was also Jin's friend (which is why Jin was so concerned about the house in the first place) and of course Kelly got angry, so angry in fact that she handed the work to Kazuya.
"He doesn't want me to design? Fine! Then, you do it! Maybe then, he'll realize what having class means."
It was a jab at him. Because really, why would someone - a high-profile client at that - want the designs of a greenhorn interior designer that wasn't even allowed yet to handle a room much less a whole house?
But it was also a challenge.
And if there was something that Kazuya Kamenashi doesn't do, it's backing down from a challenge.
So with head held high, he accepted the work as soon as he got the go-signal from their chairman.
Contrary to rumors, it wasn't easy for him. He wasn't some kind of genius. He fumbled a lot. He and Jin also got into arguments about the whole designing process but it also got them closer.
By the time the designing of the whole house was finished, Jin had announced - in his signature childish attitude - that he wanted to marry Kazuya.
"I'm going to build a beautiful house and then you're going to design its interior and then you're gonna live there because you're going to marry me," he said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Kazuya walked out on him and avoided him, doubting the man's sanity.
Jin was bisexual, yes. But the man still preferred girls judging on the occasional visits of long-legged blondes - sometimes redheads - with big breasts in his office.
So he couldn't for the life of him understand why Jin would want to marry a man when he would be just as content - maybe more - with a woman.
A week after, he was invited to a party and because everyone else was going, he went too.
Turned out, Jin had arranged that and the 'everyone-was-going' part was a lie.
He was supposed to be angry. He really should have been angry.
But how can he be angry when Jin brought him inside a huge glasshouse that clearly reminded of Japan - his home-country that he misses so much? The country that he and his family had left when he was just 10 years old?
"Behind this, I'm going to build the house I told you about. I asked someone to arrange this so you won't be so lonely every time you remember Japan."
It was in that same place, with its wonderful cherry blossoms and man-made stream, that Kazuya got married to Jin a year later.
"Yep. The client talked too much but it was a fairly easy deal. How 'bout you? You didn't skip lunch, I hope?" Jin asked suspiciously, breaking his thoughts.
Kazuya's smile turned sheepish. He really did exactly what Jin was hoping he did not do. There were just too many things to be done now because it was his first day as director and well, eating was the least of his concerns.
At the other line, Jin sighed. "Don't answer that. We've been married for 5 years now so I know you. God, why did I fall for such a workaholic man! Kazuya, I brought food and I'm going to come up there and force-feed you if I have too."
"Where are you exactly?"
"Lobby of your company."
Kazuya shook his head, amused. His husband was the most random, sweetest guy. No doubt, he had tried to come here earlier so that they could have lunch together but was probably held up by his client. Because he was the owner of his company, the only time that Jin couldn't leave as he pleases is when he has a client meeting.
"Go up then."
Everyone in the company knew that Jin was Kazuya's husband so they let him pass through without any questions.
It didn't take long for Jin to reach Kazuya's office.
But even in that small amount of time, Kazuya was able to think of a plan that could get him out of a possible scolding from Jin because even though Jin was being sweet, Kazuya could tell that he was pissed. And a pissed-off Jin was hard to handle.
Becomes down right bitchy, if you ask me.
And he simply didn't have time for Jin's bitchiness right now.
"Kazuya Kamenashi-Akanishi, why the heck are you going on a fucking hunger strike?!" Sure enough, Jin was ranting the moment Kazuya's office door closed behind him. "And don't you dare tell me you're full because you ate two toasts for breakfast. Two toasts will not last you until dinner! What, you want me to bring a doctor here to tell you that what you're doing is not healthy and that you could faint again and-"
And...action! Kazuya mentally grinned. "Jin..." He called the other's name in a small, child-like voice.
It got Jin's attention. And once Jin caught sight of his husband's puppy eyes, his frown remained but his eyes softened.
Kazuya kept the triumphant smile from showing on his face. Instead, he looked down like a scolded child and sniffed. "Y-you don't love me anymore?"
Jin's frown totally disappeared. "Of course I still love you. Come on, don't cry. I'm sorry for yelling okay?" Jin took the few steps necessary to reach the other man and pulled him into an embrace.
To keep up the act, Kazuya pulled away a bit from the hug and looked at Jin's face while biting his lips in an insecure way. "Really? You love me?"
"I love you very very very much."
Kazuya lips formed a soft smile. "Love you too. Yay! Jin loves me!" He hugged Jin back.
Jin laughed at Kazuya's antics. He knew Kazuya was acting but it was his guilty pleasure to see his husband act this way. Kazuya is always the one keeping up with his strange, random thoughts. He wanted Kazuya to be childish sometimes too because it gave Jin a chance to pamper him.
Kazuya on the other hand, was relieved the moment he heard Jin's laughter.
He could now go back to studying the latest record and checking the accounts-
"Now, my very adorable Kazu, you need to eat."
Oh well. At least Jin isn't angry anymore.
Extra:
"I'm so glad we could hang out like this again."
The three guys near him turned to look at Kazuya when he spoke.
"Feels like college all over again, huh?" Junnosuke Taguchi, sitting on Kazuya's right, agreed. He was pleasantly smiling.
"Well duh Kazuya?! You were the one that got married at 25 and decided to ditch your friends to get all lovey-dovey with your husband." Koki Tanaka grumbled. He was on Kazuya's left.
"Get off his case idiot! He didn't ditch us. You were there on his wedding. Besides, who was it that gave them a present on their anniversary? You didn't seem to dislike them then." Tatsuya Ueda, who was sitting beside Koki, defended.
"Woah! You gave them a present? On their anniversary?" Junno asked, his eyes widening. "You must have really supported them."
"Shut up! It was supposed to be a joke! He still abandoned us." Koki glared at Junno who abruptly edged closer to Kazuya.
"I'm sorry, are we still talking about Kazuya? Or your girlfriend who dumped your ass?"
"Goddamn it Tatsuya! What is your problem with me?!"
Kazuya pinched the bridge of his nose. Usually, it was Tatsuya who stays out of fight, not the one who starts it. But obviously, something was wrong with Tatsuya tonight and so was Koki.
And if he didn't do something fast, the two would be swinging fist at each other and that would be dangerous because Tatsuya was a boxer and Koki was, well, Koki - a gangsta, a fighter.
Beside him, Junno looked at the two worriedly as well.
"Sorry, I'm late," Yuiichi Nakamaru, the eldest of their group, apologized upon arriving.
Kazuya grinned. Perfect timing...
"Yuiichi~" He sing-songed and darted to the eldest. He hugged him intimately and his two squabbling friends instantly froze.
"Kazuya, unfair!" Tatsuya glared at Yuiichi, as if it was his fault their youngest was clinging to him.
"Yeah, you didn't hug me." Koki glared at the eldest too.
Behind them, Junno's smile was back on his face. He knew what Kazuya was doing. He wasn't as clueless as he was on their college days after all.
Tatsuya and Koki, being childhood friends with Kazuya, were the closest to their youngest and they were possessive of him, in a sense. Kazuya could hug anyone else only if he hugged them first. Of course, Jin was exempted to that on the grounds that he was Kazuya's husband. But even Jin went through hell trying to get the two's acceptance. That was basically why it took a year for the couple to get married. Tatsuya and Koki refused to hand over Kazuya. As if they were Kazuya's parents.
Come to think of it, the two did look like the parents on Jin and Kazuya's wedding. While Kazuya's mom and dad only smiled at their son proudly, Koki and Tatsuya were crying.
Kazuya was used to the two. In fact, he tolerates them because he was as devoted to the two as they were to him.
Junno thinks they're weird but well, everyone had their quirks and so far, these three were fun to be with so who cared if they were a little crazy?
Yuiichi sent Junno a questioning look who only mouthed 'play along' to his friend. So Yuiichi returned the embrace, which practically set Koki and Tatsuya on edge. "Nice to see you're well, Kazuya."
Kazuya smiled at Yuiichi, genuinely glad to see the eldest and then he spun around to glare at two men who were fighting earlier. "I will give you two a hug only if you stop fighting."
When Koki and Tatsuya glanced sideways at each other, Kazuya knew he won. He could've used Junno for his plan except that the tall man was an actor so he didn't want any strange rumors to float around his friend. Besides, Jin would make Junno's life a living hell if paparazzi managed to drag Kazuya in the issue.
Nope, Yuiichi - a literature professor - was definitely safer.
"What? Do you want a hug or not?"
Tatsuya was the one who gave in first. "Sorry Koki. I was just stressed from work. My schedule is messed up because of my new secretary who couldn't bloody understand how important it is to check the planner first before she sets another meeting." Tatsuya owned a clothing line - mostly jeans and mens wear - where Kazuya gets most of his clothes from.
"Yeah well, I'm sorry too. Got a little sensitive because of the break-up." Koki has been with his girlfriend for three years so it was a shock that those two broke up. Sometime later, Kazuya will ask about what happened if Koki's not too busy with his work as an archaeologist.
He grinned at his two friends proudly and did an impromptu group hug with the two.

to be continued...

I know there isn't a conflict yet but I just wanted to establish the fact that these two are married for 5 years and still act like they're newlyweds. They're happy, they're in love and everything's going smoothly. As of now. *evil grin*
