Epilogue: The Playful Little Prince

"Uncle Kaoru!"

Ami and Ruki ran towards the Whisperer.

"Ruki, Ami, is your Papa okay?" As soon as he heard the news that Kazuya had given birth, he had rushed to the palace.

Both children nodded.

"He's sleeping. Daddy is with him." Ruki informed. "Uncle, where's An-chan?" Annie is Kaoru's daughter.

"I didn't bring her along Ruki, sorry."

"Oh. I wanted to play with her. I don't like to play with nee-chan anymore."

"That's because you never win when we play games," Ami teased.

Kaoru laughed and ruffled the pouting boy's head. "Next time I'll bring her. Besides, now you only have to wait a bit for your little brother to grow up and then you'll have someone else to play with."

Ruki smiled. "Yes. Ritsu's gonna be fun for sure!"

"Ritsu?" Kaoru uttered the name, confused.

"That's what Papa and Daddy named our little brother." Ami grinned. "You should see him uncle! He's so cute!"

"And he has blue lights, just like Papa!" Ruki exclaimed excitedly.

"Hmm, I want to see him for myself. Is he with your Papa and Daddy?"

Ami shook her head. "Yuiichi nii-chan is taking care of Ritsu. Papa said Yuiichi nii-chan is good with babies."

“Is that so?” He had only met Nakamaru Yuiichi once and that was on the royal wedding so he didn’t really know the man. But if Kazuya trusted him with the newborn prince, then he must really be a capable man.

“Yep!” Ruki and Ami took each of his hand and pulled him. “Let’s go see the baby Uncle Kaoru!”

“Alright, alright.” Kaoru laughed.

They ended up outside the royal couple’s room.

The older couples - the former King and Queen and the Whisperer’s parents - and also Hikaru, Naomi, Tatsuya, Ryo, Yamapi and Koki were all crowded around Nakamaru who was holding a little baby wrapped in a blue blanket.

“Blue lights…so he takes after Kazuya then.”

“Aww, he’s so adorable!”

“It’s really a relief that both mother and son are both safe.”

“Mother huh? Well I guess you can call Kazuya that.”

“Uncle Kaoru is here!” Ami announced and everyone glanced at the newcomer.

“About time you got here!” Hikaru threw an arm over his twin’s shoulder.

“You did well, Ami, Ruki.” The former Queen patted the space next to her on the couch. “Why don’t you two rest for a while?”

“Oh and look what I brought!” Yamapi handed a small jar to the children.

“Cookies!” Ruki clapped his hands delightedly.

He and his sister sat down on the couch and munched on the goodies, pretty much oblivious now to their surroundings.

“So what did I miss?” Kaoru asked.

“The first cry of this adorable little boy,” Naomi said, motioning to the newborn prince.

“And Jin’s panicking.” Koki snickered. “He threatened the doctor half to death.”

“It was entertaining.” Ryo smirked.

“Hey doctor, my Kazuya is in pain! Do something!!!”

“Jin…”

“See? He’s calling for me! Are you really a doctor?! I swear if something happens to my husband or son I will banish you from the kingdom! Do you hear me?!”

“Jin…”

“Don’t worry Kazu, you’ll be fine!” He glared at the doctor. “What are you still standing there?! You-”

“JIN!” Kazuya screamed and hit Jin’s head. “Calm down! Shut up! The doctor can’t start with you yelling like that.”

“Wow. Kazuya really did that?” Kaoru asked, amazed. It usually takes much for their youngest brother to explode.

Tatsuya shrugged. “Kazuya was in pain. Jin’s rambling made it worst. Basically, Jin was asking for it the moment he opened his mouth.”

A loud wail was heard as the baby suddenly cried.

“Eh? What’s wrong?”

“Is he hungry?”

“Maybe we were too loud?”

The door of the room behind them opened and out came the king. He seemed surprised to see so many people.

“How’s the new father?” Koki asked.

“Me or Kazuya?” Jin smiled.

“You. Kazuya’s technically the mother, right?”

Jin laughed. “Don’t let Kazuya hear you say that.”

“Too late! I already heard you Prince Koki!” Kazuya called from inside the room. "Jin, Ritsu is calling me. Give him to me."

"Yes, love."

Yuiichi carefully placed Ritsu on Jin's arms. "Mind his head. There."

"Thanks Maru. I don't think I'll ever get used to holding him. He's so tiny..." Jin looked at his little baby with adoration.

Yuiichi smiled. "Trust me you're highness, you'll get used to it eventually." He bowed respectfully. "I will take my leave now your highness. Just call for me if you need me."

Jin nodded in acknowledgement. He walked towards the room. “Kazu, you have visitors.”

“Kazuya, how are you feeling dear?” The former queen inquired.

“I’m fine, your grace. Thank you for visiting me.” Kazuya smiled at the older lady before reaching for Ritsu who calmed down immediately once he felt his mother’s warmth.

“Your wound doesn’t hurt?” The former king asked, concerned.

Because Kazuya is a man, the doctor had no choice but to cut open his stomach to get the baby.

“It doesn’t hurt that much now, your highness. As you know, we Whisperers heal faster than humans.”

“That’s good to hear. My wife and I will take our leave now. I’m sure you want to talk to your parents and siblings alone.” The former king smiled.

The former queen placed her hand on top of Kazuya’s. “Thank you for loving our son and for giving birth to our grandchild.”

Kazuya nodded, moved by the sincerity in the former queen’s eyes.

“Jin, why don’t you step out with us for a while?” The former king said.

Jin nodded and followed his parents out of the room.

When he returned, only Yamapi, Ami and Ruki were left with Kazuya and the baby.

“Where are the others?”

“They left a while ago. They said Kazuya needs to rest. I’m on my way too. I just couldn’t leave Kazuya without an adult.”

Kazuya huffed. “I’ve been trying to convince him that I’ll be fine. It’s not like I’m a little child.”

“Did you forget what Tatsuya told you?” Yamapi scolded.

Tatsuya frowned and checked Kazuya's pulse. "Don't be stubborn Kazuya. You have to stay in bed for at least three days more. Your aura is still a bit weak."

Jin laughed and tapped Yamapi’s shoulder. “Thank you Yamapi. You and your family are welcome here anytime. You know that, right?”

“Of course. I’ll take my leave then. Bye Kazu! I’ll visit soon.” Yamapi waved and left.

"Daddy, look! Ritsu's holding my finger." Ruki's eyes were shining as he cooed at the baby who was cradled by Kazuya.

"Ritsu likes his older brother," Kazuya said to Ruki.

"I...I like him too, Papa. Hi, Ritsu! Ruki nii-chan will protect you forever and ever and ever!"

As if understanding the boy's words, Ritsu's hand tightened its grip on Ruki's pinky finger.

Jin's eyes got teary at the touching scene. He quickly wiped the tears away the moment Kazuya looked up. “What did you talk about with your family?”

“Well, I told them I’m bored. It’s been a month since I left my room and now you won’t even let me leave my bed."

Ami who was standing behind her brother, giggled. “He really did say that Daddy.”

"Good job, my pretty spy!” Jin winked at Ami. Then he turned to Kazuya. “And love, you just gave birth. Of course I can’t let you walk around now." Jin affectionately kissed Kazuya's forehead.

Kazuya sighed. “Fine. But I draw my limit at three days. You have to let me roam around after three days.”

“Hai, hai.” Jin grinned and sat down beside Kazuya. He leaned to look at their newborn son fondly. He looks a lot like Kazuya…except for his lips, which he got from me.

“What are you thinking, Jin?”

“Hmm? Nothing, love.”

Kazuya raised an eyebrow but didn’t press any further. He glanced at his children and then back at Jin. He smiled. Could anyone ever ask for more?

------------

A little boy crouched low behind the bushes.

Take a peek...

Look to the left...

No one there.

Look to the right...

All clear.

Yosh! He giggled and stepped out of the bush he was hiding in and stretched his arms. He then ran towards the stables.

“Ritsu!”

The eight year old boy stopped in his tracks and glanced back sheepishly. “Daddy…”

Jin crossed his arms. “You ran away from your nursemaid again.” It wasn’t a question. “How many times do I have to tell you not to worry the lady?”

“But Daddy, I don’t need a nursemaid! Ruki nii-chan and Ami nee-chan didn’t have nursemaids when they were young!” The young prince sulked, his slightly long black hair falling over his eyes. His lips were pouting.

Jin sighed. “You are my heir Ritsu. You need special attention.”

“Why can’t Ruki nii-chan be your heir, Daddy?” Ritsu asked innocently.

“Your Papa and I already told you Ruki and Ami real parents died long ago, right? I’ve adopted them and I love them but we don’t share the same blood. The law forbids anyone that is not of royal blood to ascend the throne. Do you understand, Ritsu?”

Ritsu nodded slowly. “I’m sorry, Daddy.” He looked up at his father, his hazel brown eyes wide and teary.

Jin felt his heart melting. He was supposed to scold Ritsu some more but how can he when the boy was looking at him like that? The expression was so much like Kazuya.

He knew he should be a bit more firm with his youngest child but it wasn’t his fault that the boy took after Kazuya so much - not only in looks but also in mannerism. He can’t deny Kazuya anything and so the same goes for Ritsu. It really wasn’t fair.

“Don’t cry, Ritsu. Come now. I’ll let you ride one of the young winged-horses okay?” He cajoled.

The boy’s face instantly brightened. “Yey! I love you, Daddy!” He jumped onto his father’s lap.

“What happened to discipline?”

Both father and son turned towards the voice.

“Uh-oh,” Ritsu muttered.

Uh-oh indeed, Jin thought as he looked at the pissed expression on his Queen’s face. “Ah Kazu, you see…Um…”

“Don’t you ‘Kazu’ me. Ritsu did something wrong. You shouldn’t be rewarding him.” Kazuya scolded. “I can’t even count how many times he did this. I let it slide before but enough is enough!”

“Papa, I’m sorry…” Ritsu bowed his head apologetically. He didn’t try the puppy-eyes. He knew it wouldn’t work on his Papa. “I just wanted to see you both. If I was missing, you’d both look for me.”

Kazuya knelt so that he was in eye level with his son. “I know you miss us and we haven’t been spending much time with you. I’m sorry. But what you did was wrong. Your nursemaid was truly worried you know? The poor lady was crying. I don’t want you to grow up disregarding people’s feelings. If you turned to be that kind of king in the future, that would mean I was a failure as a parent.”

Ritsu’s eyes widened. “No Papa! You’re not a failure! You’re the best Papa ever!”

Kazuya smiled faintly. “Then can we both promise something?”

Ritsu nodded furiously. He loved his Papa and he didn’t like seeing him sad.

“I promise you that I and your Daddy would spend more time with you. But at times that we’re not with you, I want you to promise that you will be good to your nursemaid. Don’t run away or hide from her. Listen to her words.”

“Yes, Papa. I promise.” He stood up straight and let his lights show. It was a gesture of sincerity for all Whisperers. It had come naturally to him.

Kazuya touched Ruki’s forehead with his own and let his lights envelope the two of them in a sign of comfort.

Kazuya pulled back and gazed at Ritsu’s eyes. “I need to punish you. You know that, don’t you?”

“Yes, Papa.”

“No playing outside today. Stay in your room.”

Ritsu looked like he wanted to argue but decided against it. One day in his room isn’t that bad of a punishment, after all.

“Go back to your room now. Your nursemaid is waiting for you,” Kazuya prodded.

Ritsu nodded and kissed his Papa’s cheek before leaving. “I love you Papa.”

“I love you too, Ritsu.”

“You handle him so well,” Jin said amazed once the little boy was out of their sight. He wrapped his arms around Kazuya’s middle.

“Mother’s instinct,” Kazuya said nonchalantly and leaned back against Jin.

“I thought you hate being called his mother.” Jin kissed Kazuya’s hair.

“Technically, I am his mother. I gave birth to him. I can’t deny that. So I thought it would be fine, calling me as such. Besides, everyone in this kingdom is already calling me Queen Kazuya, one more feminine title won’t damage my ego.”

“Sorry, love.” Jin’s arms tightened around Kazuya.

“For what?” Kazuya turned his head slightly to look at Jin.

“For spoiling Ritsu too much. And also because you have to be treated like a female when you’re around me.”

“Ah…that?” Kazuya kissed Jin. “I already knew he’d be spoiled rotten the moment I saw him. He looks like me. You can’t say no to me so you can’t say no to him.”

“Eh? You…you knew?”

“We’re bound remember? I can feel what you feel. And I don’t really mind. Ritsu is a good child. He’s a little naughty because he is your child.” Kazuya laughed. “But he listens to me. That’s good enough for me.”

“I’m glad.” Jin kissed Kazuya again. This time, the kiss lasted longer and it was more passionate, deeper.

Kazuya moaned and broke the contact. When his eyes met Jin’s, he laughed. “Times like this, I’m reminded why people around us sees me as the female in this relationship.”

“Huh?” Jin asked, not quite getting it.

“You make me feel so good, I have no choice but to submit.” Kazuya grinned and leaned more to Jin.

Jin’s laugh was silenced by Kazuya’s kisses.

So many things have happened but their story is far from over.

This is only the beginning of a new chapter of Kazuya’s life - as a Whisperer, as a Queen, as a parent, and as a person in love. The road may not be as peaceful in the future as it is now. But as long as he is with Jin and their children, he is sure the journey would be something he could look forward to.
