Room 212, Late Saturday morning

Oct 20, 2007 11:50

Cassandra hadn't left her room since Friday. Too many new people at once, most of them loud in their way. Instead she had decided to work on her reading comprehension some more.

So she sat in the middle of the floor with a book in her lap and a now-cold cup of tea beside her.

Bruce was tempted to employ his stealth skills and sneak into Cassandra's room to determine whether or not she'd kept up her training, but considering the circumstances, this would likely be a better test. Barbara hadn't warned Cass that she was coming, Bruce certainly hadn't given any warning for anything ever, so only by listening to the suspiciously informative radio last night would she have any idea.

That's why Bruce did the most surprising thing he felt he could.

He knocked.

Cassandra froze. Then she looked up at the door, frowning. There was a pattern to the knock, one that was familiar somehow. She just wasn't sure how.

"It's open?"

Bruce opened the door silently. Yes, he even when he was in public and people knew he was here and he was going to talk to a friend, he still did that kind of thing. Dork.

"Good morning, Cassandra," he said as he stepped inside.

She stared. And stared. And then, for variety, Cassandra stared some more.

Jack knocked on Cass's door. There may have been a man in a suit around the corner, but that wasn't his concern.

Different knock this time. Who else had showed up unexpectedly?

"Who's there?"

The problem with 212, Barbara was finding, was that it was on the second floor. She disapproved heartily of the lack of disabled access in the dorms, so had resorted to the oldest trick in the book.

She picked up a handful of gravel from the path, did a quick calculation to work out which window was 212, and pelted it from outside.

Cassandra looked up from where she was seated, still working with her books, and then stepped to the window. As she peered out she the window, she caught a flash of familiar red hair.

It only took a second to get the window open, and she stuck her head out, "Barbara?" Even having Batman here hadn't led her to expect this.

Barbara grinned up at her, then tried to look stern.

"The accessibility in this town is disgraceful," she says. "I might not come again."

"What are you doing here at all?" Cassandra asked as she climbed partially out of the widnow to sit on the sill and look down at Barbara.
