Pairing: Alisha/Simon
1. Too much
It's too much, it's too soon. It's so difficult to try and go on, move on. It's waking up in the middle of the night, tangled up in the mattress, everything reminding her of what it was, of what she's lost. It's painful, thinking of him, living here, where he used to live. Where he breathed and laughed, where he made love to her. It's too much, it's too soon.
And then she'll go out, she'll go to the community centre, and he- the other him- will be there, just as lost and as weird as ever, and something inside her will twist and complain, and she'll long for him, the Simon she knew and loved and never heard her say so. The one she misses so much it hurts, the one that's not here. Not anymore.
And, sometimes, this other Simon will look at her, and Alisha'll feel funny, because these are his eyes and his face and his body, and it's so fucking unfair he's left her here. She wants to say it, she wants to tell him he's a frigging tease, he's been messing around with her head. She can't.
One day, the Simon that's here, the one with too many clothes and no confidence at all, will sit beside her. At lunch. And she'll think of the times she brought him a drink, she'll think of the times she liked him because he reminded her so much of him. Now she can't stand looking at him; it hurts.
Hi, he'll say, and she'll try not to look up; it's his voice. And it'll be difficult, but she'll manage. For a while. Then, Simon will try and touch her shoulder, tentative, doubtful, and she'll wish it wasn't covered so she could know for sure he's not the one she's looking for.
Hi, she'll answer, at last. And he'll mutter something that will sound like “you like food?”, and she won't be able to help it, she'll laugh so hard she'll be crying, and he will notice.
Alisha, he'll say. Are you... Are you okay?
She'll stay quiet. Then, she'll snap. Do I look like I'm okay, you fucking idiot?, and she'll regret her harsh words almost inmediatly, because he's so naive and sure she's frightened him, really.
Only he won't be afraid, he won't stay quiet. He'll hug her, awkardly, from behind, and she'll cry harder, and it's too much, it's too soon, but maybe the other Simon was right. She's falling for him.
