This is absolutely unacceptable

Children gassed at the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton as parents prayed at Ramadan services. This occurred after millions of the DVD, Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West were distributed in major newspapers and through the U.S. mail.

This blog post appears to suggest that the distribution of the film falls into political territory ( Read more... )

How is it that certain individuals have completely failed to understand that there are bad people of all religions: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and all the rest?i fear that we, as a nation, will never learn the lesson of the oklahoma city bombing. to truly understand that, it would require a full dialogue and level of introspection that far too much of the nation simply isn't capable of, or willing to commit to. i think alot of it has to do with having become comfortable with the rationalizations in their head for deep down secret racism, and they're just too damned ashamed ( ... )

In a number of his books, Terry Pratchett has the supreme ruler of the Big City observe that people don't want freedom/love/etc, they want today to be pretty much the same as yesterday (and "supper to turn up within the hour"). When some people from another country move in next door, that's too different for most of us, so we don't try to talk to them, so we don't learn anything about them.

I don't think it's just secret racism, it's really *-ism. We have trouble relating to anyone that isn't just like us, so we distrust them. Well, it's also that people, in general, have been loosing the moderation of action that might have existed even 50 years ago. Example- a hairdresser that looks like Sarah Palin has been getting hate mail recently. WTF?

Sigh. I won't start in on the state of education for the last couple of decades, and how most people don't make the effort to actually think anymore.

The people that think it is OK to carry out such horrid crimes really have no clue as to what they are doing. They don't see the domino effect they are creating. One hateful act breeds more hateful acts easier than anything else.

It reminds me of the crusades. How many countries were involved in that. How many people let it happen in the name of "god". Modern times have only created modern ways of hurting each other.

There are extremists in every country and every nationality. They are time bombs waiting to go off. Until everyone can open their minds and hearts and be kind to each other and have patience with everyone, we will always be looking over our shoulders.
