Things I've read or watched recently:

Dion Fortune--Psychic Self-Defense: A little book of somewhat uncharacteristically hard-headed analysis of how to identify and deal with psychic troubles. A good deal of the book is spent on how to discriminate these from psychological effects, which is excellent, and also on how to discriminate effects ( Read more... )

I picture Roland as being much, much leaner than he's portrayed in the pics I saw there.

I'm not sufficiently a comics fan to dive into this one, but some other folks might be interested, so I'll pass it along.

Several of the pictures that are up, however, are concept sketches by multiple artists. Jae Lee's the actual artist, and I think he's captured Roland's lankiness pretty well. You also have to remember that the comic centers around Roland when he was young - he hasn't been worn down by the passage of time at this point.

I started reading the palestine book, it is brilliant but very heavy...

The adds are great stuff. I liked the political, the emperor and the chinese (haahahahah!) one best.

I really like the way Sacco caricatures himself... it lightens the tone enough to make the books readable. I'll be passing Safe Area Gorazde to my dad, partly for his interest, and partly because he has inside knowledge of some of this stuff, having been closely connected with the UN and NATO operations groups during that period, and I want to find out how true or slanted the books are.
