Title: Nothing S'Good Can Last
Fandom: War for the Oaks
Pairing: Eddi McCandry/Willy Silver
Rating: PG
Notes: fst's prompt was "it couldn't last" this month, and I immediately wanted to do an Eddi/Willy mix, as they have such bizarre chemistry in the book. Like Hedge says, "nothing s'good can last." Major spoilers for the entire book (I am serious, as ( Read more... )

Regardless of what these songs are like(and I am about to find out), I love you forever just for making this. This book needs more love.

This and Finder are basically my favorite books in the known universe! :D

I haven't yet read Finder(I just bought a copy, though), but have you read her husband's book set in Bordertown? Or the anthologies from the 80s and 90s?

I have the Bordertown anthology, and I've definitely read Elsewhere and Nevernever.

I think there clearly needs to be more Bordertown in everyone's lives.

...even though I'm a little spoiled on the book, now, you've chosen some of my favorite songs to represent it, and the excerpts are intriguing, so - thank you! Off to find War For The Oaks. ^^;;

Oh, god, it is FANTASTIC, and I definitely tried to avoid the super major spoilers. I know Tor.com was giving away a free e-copy of it in October-- you might still be able to register and find it (it's a free reg and takes all of three seconds anyway)

That's a great heads-up; I was just about to check my library's website, but a free e-copy is not something to pass up. Thanks again!

Yeah, it's getting harder to find (Finder is pretty much completely out of print, which is depressing!) Therefore, free is always good.

kdfsj;ds oh my god

I read Finder forever ago-- it's somewhere in my room, actually-- and for some reason I loved it but could never find anything more set in that 'verse.

I think I love you ;;

Different 'verse. *grins* Finder is the shared-world of Bordertown. Don't let that stop you, though. WftO is just as brilliant and wonderful.

It will probably make you cry, too.

I cried like a baby, I'm not even going to lie.

Finder made me cry too, but anyone who doesn't at least tear up is without a soul.

I bawl every single time I read Finder. I think it's very unfair, personally.

I don't know if you're familiar with the LJ comm Yuletide but I've been a participant for a number of years now and the other year I was gifted with Tick Tock fanfic. D'awwwww.

Yah! They were giving it out with Shetterly's Dogland. I have the Shetterly .pdf, and I may have the WftO one.

Ah, crap, only have Dogland; I'll see if I can hunt down the WftO .pdf.

Don't have the WftO .pdf, and Tor's no longer giving it away for free! D:

Whoa whoa whoa okay.

I am now incredibly interested in these books; how many are there? In what order should I read them? Who are they by and where can I find them??

(Also, so totally downloading the mix.)

Bordertown 'verse: Elsewhere, Nevernever, Finder, although I read Finder first and reading the other two is like getting delicious, delicious backstory. Also, get your hands on a copy of The Essential Bordertown, and any of the other anthologies, if you can.

War for the Oaks is a standalone, and freaking amazing. Emma Bull is a genius. (She wrote Finder, and her husband, Will Shetterly wrote Elsewhere and Nevernever).
