Ooh, free hats.

I walked across what those clever marketers have labelled 'Our Bridge' with my family today. I didn't really see the point; as one fellow walker put it, "we could've just caught the train."

ABC-sponsored loudspeakers blasted a medley of Australian songs, historical sound clips and George Lucas. Much to my dismay, people began grooving when a snippet of "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton John was played. (Thankfully however, no-one was wearing spandex.) People on high chairs were posted every few hundred metres along the sides of the bridge, kinda like lifesavers, but (as the aforementioned fellow walker also mentioned) "facing the wrong way".

At least I got my free lime green kitsch hat. Some people bought inflatable Harbour Bridge head ornaments from unlicensed street merchants; they were $10 - talk about inflation. Wish I walked at night instead, so that I could've gotten a fetching orange hat with an inbuilt, battery powered flashlight. Guess I gotta wait another 25 years.
