Now that Aaron Sorkin has been nominated for an Oscar for writing fanfic about real people, I am drawing a line under the "is writing RPF wrong?" argument and calling it a win for the "it's just RPF; geez, calm down" camp.

You know, the funny thing is that fanfic about real people is older than dirt. But people being forced to engage with that RPF is extremely unusual.

Which is why The Social Network is perhaps more boundaries-pushing than some weird little fanfic in the backyard of the internet. Because Zuckerberg has to confront it, and even has to have an opinion on it. He can't pretend it's some badly-written book or article about him or a fanfic he couldn't have possibly seen. It's all there in big letters and it's pretty invasive.

But then it's the guy who thinks that privacy is a relic of the past. Words to live by, right?

Hey now. I'm not no one. ;) (And your fic is excellent. I wish people would read it.)

I read your fic! I'm just terribly rude and didn't say so. It's really good, in any case. Possibly I could go over there and comment now, I suppose. Hm!

And yes. It's just RPF. Calm down, everybody. Nothing to see here. Move along, &c.

P.S. Now that Aaron Sorkin has been nominated for an Oscar for writing fanfic about real people, I am drawing a line under the "is writing RPF wrong?" argument and calling it a win for the "it's just RPF; geez, calm down" camp.

I'd never looked at it that way, but that is SUCH a good point.
