I wasn't using that fourth wall, anyway

Dear Charlie McDonnell,

Aw, you're sweet. And naive. I love those two things about you.

But when you make your living off being famous on the internet, you have to understand that your image and your persona will effectively become completely disengaged from who you really are. Your image will be used in weird fansites and picture manipulations and people might even take your persona and write fanfic about it.*

But.

Did I mention?

You make your living from this. You whore yourself out on the internet and you get paid for it (people buy your music; you get offered speaking commitments and TV jobs). Your videos get more views than some TV shows on The CW! (...Sad for The CW, tbqh.) You're famous. Sorry about that. If you don't like it, delete your youtube account and go and get a job in a shop.

*No one writes fanfic about you. Trust me, I've checked. People SHOULD write fanfic about you, because it would be awesome. Also, I wrote fanfic about you and no one read it. The end.

Lots of love,
Nicola

P.S. Now that Aaron Sorkin has been nominated for an Oscar for writing fanfic about real people, I am drawing a line under the "is writing RPF wrong?" argument and calling it a win for the "it's just RPF; geez, calm down" camp.
