ahhh, incest

Via missmomoko: Parted-At-Birth Twins Got Married. Uh, oops?

I was thinking recently about how incest isn't just a taboo in the sense that it's bad. It's taboo in that people don't like to even talk about it; they don't like to acknowledge its existence. Which is something I find strange. We talk about murder, right? We talk about all sorts of horrific ( Read more... )

This news story has actually made it onto CNN... and really, the US doesn't give a shit about British politics. And all this from an unsubstantiated claim from a politician to prove a point. So I think that people have a dark, secret fascination with the subject.

On a related note, there was a discussion about incest on ONTD. It was simultaneously hilarious and sad.

I kind of...feel bad for the twins. Like, okay, finding out you just married your sibling has to be bizarre and horrible, but let's think of it the other way: you just found out that the person you fell in love with and are very likely at least sexually ATTRACTED to is in fact...your sibling. How weird and awkward. Wouldn't you feel sort of like you'd never have that connection as well with anyone else? I can't imagine even getting out of that situation.

That said, TWINS breeding is probably, actually a bad idea. Unless they're beautiful genius twins.

Er, but I'm pretty sure this whole messed up thing is mostly an argument for open adoption. I agree that we should talk about incest more but I don't think that's why it happened. I'm sure they know it's weird o_O

Actually since only fraternal twins can procreate with each other, there is no difference between twins and normal siblings genetically. (There is the much hypothized idea of semi-identical twins, but the only case so far that proved that thesis yielded a male and an intersex twin of unknown fertility.)

Huh. That's a good point.

(Although siblings breeding probably not a good idea in general, unless, of course they're beautiful genius twinssiblings.

Yeah, I really don't like the politician who brought this up for using tabloid style sensationalism to make his point. Using the example of "twins" to evoke images of identical twins breeding even though the evoked image is patently misleading, was just rubbish of him.

I have to say I'm a little surprised they got it annulled. I mean, unless they were gonna have kids I don't really see the harm >.> It's not like they grew up together or an abusive/manipulative relation was enforced. Maybe I'm just weird.
