I Wouldn't Mind Objectifying You
Santana spent her usual amount of time getting ready for her date to Finn. That was to say, she spent a very long time. She showered and dried and styled her hair into large wavy curls that fell around her shoulders and down her back. The dress she chose was a strapless skin-tight minidress that was a deep green that brought out the green flecks in her brown eyes and showed off all of her best assets while barely covering them. The last touches were matching green stilletos and a swipe of cherry lipgloss. With a satisfied smile, she blew herself a kiss in the mirror, grabbed her clutch, and moved downstairs to wait on Finn.
Finn had been so nervous about the date he had decided to go for a run before hand to calm his nerves. It had taken him a few miles to loosen up and by the time he felt mostly relaxed and ready to head home, he was already running late. Taking a shower in record time, Finn ran to his room, nearly tripping over his own legs constricted by the towel, and frantically rushed around looking for something to wear. Grabbing a dark-wash pair of jeans and a nice button down shirt, Finn dressed as fast as possible. He did his best to style his hair the grabbed his leather jacket before darting out the door.
Three minutes late, and feeling terrible, Finn knocked on Santana's door. His hair was disheveled and his cheeks were slightly flushed from all his running around, but after a deep breath he was almost half way mentally prepared for this.
Santana called out to her parents that she was leaving and then moved to the door and pulled it open. She cocked a hip, taking in his hair and face, then his clothes. Well, at least he'd dressed nicely. She lifted an eyebrow at him. "What happened to you?"
This only made Finn's face redden a bit more, which really wasn't helping his case here. "Uh, nothing. I just went running and ran a bit farther than normal so then I like... didn't have as much time as I thought I would. But yeah, it's nothing. You ready to go?" He asked, finally looking her over. He was glad he had babbled out an explanation first because she looked seriously... wow. "You look..." his brain had momentarily stopped functioning as he oogled and finding the right word to describe her was quite difficult. "Great. Amazing. Awesome." Overkill. Just shut up.
"I know," Santana replied, stepping out of the house and shutting the door. It was no secret to her how extraordinary she looked. That was something she'd known her entire life. "Are you ready? What did you decide to do? Because I have a better idea," she told him, looking up at him with an impatient questioning look.
He figured he might as well not even argue with her and just conceded on this point. "Well if you have a better idea let's hear it."
Santana gave him an approving smile. A guy who let her take over, perfect. "Come on, I'll show you." She moved to the car and stopped at the passenger door, waiting for him to open it for her.
Finn just smirked slightly at Santana and opened the door for her. He kind of liked that she was... sassy. Or whatever this attitude was. Making sure she was all inside he shut the door and jogged over to the driver's seat. "So where am I driving?"
When Santana sat, her skirt slid an inch or two up her thighs. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and looked at him. "Last Call. It's a club downtown. Tonight they have a karaoke night," she told him. As they pulled out, she gave him directions, telling him when and where to turn.
It took all of Finn's will power to keep his eyes on the road when he knew there were miles and miles of bare Santana legs in his car, but he somehow managed. "Uh, yeah that's on that one street..." he said vaguely before just following her directions. The street parking was pretty limited but finally he found a spot a couple blocks away from the club. "So, uh, in case you forgot we're underage. How exactly are we getting in?"
Santana slid an i.d. out of her purse and held it up. "Fake i.d.," she smirked, tucking it into the bodice of her dress between her breasts. "Come on." She slid out of the car and started walking to the club.
Finn looked at the card curiously, pretty impressed actually. "Uh right." That didn't explain how Finn was getting in but Santana was pretty persuasive so he figured she would just wing it. Falling in step with her, they made their way to the club. "Well I guess you better go first," he said, once they were close to the club door.
Santana gave him a look that screamed 'duh' and moved ahead of him. When she got to the guy at the door, she pulled her i.d. out of her dress and it became apparent why she'd put it there. The guy's eyes went to her chest like they'd been magnetized there. He barely even glanced at her i.d. before he handed it back.
"Uh," he said, still staring at her cleavage. "You're clear. Go on in."
Santana resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Men were so easy and predictable. She tossed her head and then nodded it at Finn. "He's with me." The guy looked up at Finn and lost some of his hot girl dazed look, so Santana stepped into his personal space and lowered her voice. "Please?" she practically purred. "Let him in? For me?"
The guy scowled at Finn, then looked back at Santana and nodded a little. "Alright, fine," he grumbled.
Finn just stood tall, trying to look as old as possible, though after he saw Santana flash the bouncer some cleavage he sort of forgot about his act and frowned. Sure, she was getting him into this club when he was clearly underage (because seriously, he was probably the most baby-faced guy on the football team... well except for Kurt maybe) but she was also supposed to be on a date with him. He totally would have traded off bringing her to the roller rink like he had planned and be called a loser than have to share his date with other guys. Once they were inside the club door he instinctively wrapped an arm around her, as if trying to ward off other guys or something. He wasn't too sure why he had done it but he had felt this need to and well, whatever, he was Finn Hudson and did what he wanted. "So, what do we do in a place like this. I mean, beside Karaoke."
Santana barely held back a smirk as Finn's arm went around her shoulders. She was used to possessive men, but she hadn't expected that out of Finn Hudson. Even so, she couldn't say she didn't like it. Her brown eyes moved around the club, taking stock and landing on the bar. "We drink." She started to order him to go get her one then remembered he had no i.d. The bartender most likely wouldn't ask to see one, but if Finn walked over with his baby face and fumbled over the order the bartender might get suspicious and ask for one. "What do you want?"
"Uh, just a beer. Here..." He retracted his arm from around her and dug in his pockets to pull out a ten for her. It wasn't polite to make her pay for the drinks when he had asked her on the date, right? Right. He wasn't planning on drinking more than a beer or two since he had do drive home anyway.
Santana smirked and took the money, then moved to the bar. Damn right he was paying! She grabbed them each a beer then moved back to him and handed him one without giving him his change. "You need to relax. You look awkward as hell."
Finn shrugged and took a swig of his beer. "I'm relaxed. It's just weird... I don't know." He took another drink. "Do you want to sit down and watch some of the other karaoke people?
Santana took pity on him and smiled, sliding her hand into his. "Yeah," she said, her voice gentler. "Come on." She led him over to a small table, surprised that she was sad to let his hand go as she sat down.
A small smile crept its way onto Finn's face when Santana took his hand and he too was sad when she let go. "So have you been here before?"
Santana sat back in her seat and crossed her long legs. "A few times. Matt and I found it last year."
Finn tried not to stare at Santana's legs too much and looked up before taking another swig of beer. "Oh, well cool. I never would have thought to come to a place like this."
"By the time we're through, you'll be wanting to come here every night," Santana said, sipping her beer. "Trust me, it's addictive."
Chuckling awkward, he drank some more. He was really going to need to slow down if he planned on staying sober tonight. "I'll let you know if I'm addicted by the end of the night."
Santana looked over at him, her eyes dark and sultry. Oh, he'd be addicted by the end of the night, that much she knew. But it wasn't just the club that she was planning to make him addicted to. "What song are you going to sing?"
Finn shifted uncomfortably in his chair, feeling like he was getting eye fucked by Santana. It was kind of hot but at the same time really alarming and unexpected. "Uh, I don't know. Maybe some Journey. They're always good... Er, what about you?"
As soon as Finn said Journey, it was decided. "You're singing with me. Like, a duet." In her two and a half years in Glee, she'd worked herself up and had many solos. She'd sung with Artie, Kurt, and all of the girls, but she'd never been paired with Finn. That was changing now.
Finn tilted his head in confusion. What had been the point of Santana asking him what he was going to sing if she was just going to decide they were going to sing together. Girls were crazy. But he didn't want to say no and ruin their date so he just nodded. "Okay, cool, what song?"
Santana shrugged. "I didn't think that far. Something Journey? What's your favorite Journey song?" See? She could let the guy control some things sometimes. Maybe.
His face lit up because he really loved Journey. Except he wasn't sure if Santana was really the classic rock kind of girl. But they had done a few Journey songs for Glee so she would at least know those. "Well 'Don't Stop Believing' is always a classic... Do you have another song you'd rather do?"
"The only Journey I know is what we did in Glee, but you want to do it so..." Santana shrugged. "We'll do Don't Stop Believing." She smirked. Eat that, Rachel Berry.
Finn grinned widely and nodded. "It's my favorite so awesome. Uh, I guess we'll just have to wait our turn then?"
Santana felt the start of a smile. Finn was really gorgeous when he grinned that way, like he was lighting up from the inside. For a moment, she was stunned but then she recovered. "Yeah. I'll go put our names down." She stood and moved to let the DJ know what they were doing.
Had that been a smile of her own? Finn swelled with pride slightly thinking of how he almost made her smile. "Cool," he said before watching her walk off, starring at her legs a little too long. Once he saw her heading back though he focused back on his beer bottle, taking a swig.
Santana felt Finn's eyes on her as she walked away and she knew what a nice sight she was giving him. As she walked back, she saw him suddenly find his beer super interesting. "You can look, you know," she smirked, sliding back into her seat and crossing her legs. "It's kind of why I dress like this."
"Oh," Finn said, blushing. "Well I didn't want to, uh, objectify you. Like that one time Artie told us how Tina freaked out at him because he was doing that and yeah..." He trailed off before looking at her. "You look really nice."
Objectify? That was a really big word for him. Santana held back a laugh, then leaned in and lowered her voice. "Here's a little hint. If a girl dresses like this, she wants to be objectified. If I didn't want guys looking, I wouldn't give them something to look at." And leaning in like that he got a nice view of her cleavage.
Finn wondered what a brain aneurysm felt like because he kind of felt like that was happening right now as he stared down Santana's shirt. "I wouldn't mind objectifying you." Oh crap had he said that out loud? That wasn't polite date talk even if Santana had practically asked him to say something like that.
Santana laughed, her head tilting back a bit and showing off the expanse of her throat. "I'll keep that in mind, sunshine." She smirked and sat back again.
So distracted by her boobs and neck that he oddly wanted to kiss at that moment, he almost missed the nickname she had decided to call him. "Sunshine?"
Santana shrugged, tossing her hair behind her shoulder. "What? It fits. You're totally like the sun." Had she really just said that? Shit. What was it about Finn that made her defenses slip?
Finn raised an eyebrow but found himself grinning again. "Why, because I'm so hot?" See, he could be funny! But really, he was still confused about what her calling him 'sunshine' was about.
Santana laughed suddenly, her hand coming up to cover her mouth. She nodded and shifted her head to her chest. "Yeah, that's it. That's exactly it," she grinned at him.
"Cool," Finn said as he beamed slightly, but then worked on containing his grin. It was kind of a big deal after all for someone like Santana Lopez to think he was hot when she was always seen with the hottest guys at school... and sometimes other schools. Maybe even some college guys. Or at least those were the rumors. But whatever, Santana was out with him, so fuck yeah. "Uh, do you want another drink?" He thought that was a much more appropriate thing to say rather than 'You look cute when you laugh'.
Santana's grin stayed in place as she nodded. It made her look softer, happier. "Yeah. Thanks."
"I think they'll card me if I go up there," Finn said, chuckling. Except he felt kind of stupid. He shouldn't have offered her a drink if he was just going to make her get it. Stupid stupid stupid. "Do you need more money?"
Santana lifted an eyebrow. "Seriously?" She rolled her eyes, but was smiling as she stood, holding out a hand for money. Sure, she had plenty of her own money, but this was a date and guys paid on dates. Period, end of sentence. "What do you want?" She couldn't believe she was getting their drinks. Next time they came, she'd have a fake i.d. for him.
Finn dug out another bill from his wallet and handed it to Santana. "Uh, I'm good with beer, thanks."
Santana nodded and took the bill, moving to get their beers. As she waited, she glanced back at Finn over her shoulder and took a slow breath. She was falling. Hard. Shit, that wasn't supposed to happen. She didn't fall for guys. She used them then threw them out when she was done and moved on. But there was something about Finn Hudson. He wasn't like the usual assholes she went out with. He had a heart. Taking their beers, she nodded at the bartender then moved back over to Finn just in time for the DJ to call their names. "We're up."
Debating with himself for a few seconds, Finn decided to bring his beer up on stage as he could use the liquid courage right now. He was at home on the stage after his years in Glee but he always got a little nervous when he sang in a new place for the first time. He stopped at the DJ's station telling them their song then joined Santana on the stage. As he waited for his cue, he took a sip of his beer. Finally he started to sing...
Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. She took the midnight train going anywhere...
Santana took her beer as well, not for the courage but she knew better than to leave an open drink laying around. Instead of sitting on the stool provided, she set her beer there and waited for her line.
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit. He took the midnight train going anywhere...
Finn had heard Santana sing before but it always amazed him. Sure she was really hot and head Cheerio but then she could sing to and it was like, really unexpected.
He grinned as she sang her lines then jumped back in.
A singer in a smokey room... He sang out, then looked to Santana.
The smell of wine and cheap perfume, Santana sang, her eyes going to Finn as their voices came together for the next part. For a smile they can share the night. It goes on and on and on and on.
Finn smiled as they continued singing the next part. Strangers, waiting, up and down the boulevard, their shadows searching in the night. Streetlight people, living just to find emotion, hiding somewhere in the night.
He tapped the rhythm against his leg as he waited for Santana's next cue and took another drink of his beer, those his nerves were gone by now. Once it was her turn, he looked at her, waiting for her to sing.
Santana pulled her mic out of its stand as she sang the next part. Working hard to get my fill. She looked right at Finn and smiled. Everybody wants a thrill. The audience faded and just like it did every time she sang with Glee, everything else disappeared and it was only them on the stage.
Finn's voice joined Santana's once again, as their eyes met. He couldn't help but grin at her as he sang. Paying anything to roll the dice just one more time.
Some will win, Santana sang, grinning at Finn. Rachel held Finn's hand a lot during their duets and suddenly Santana knew why as she was overcome with the urge to do the same. Instead, she lifted her free and and pressed her palm to her stomach. Some will lose. Some were born to sing the blues. Oh the movie never ends, it goes on and on and on and on.
Finn set his beer down on the his stool on stage and started air drumming along as the guitar solo played. He didn't really realize he was doing it but he also didn't care if he looked like a giant dork. He just really loved Journey... and was really getting into the song. Finally Finn concentrated on Santana again and with a grin began singing again.
Don't stop believing. Hold on to that feeling. Street light, people...
Santana's hand moved to her mouth to muffle a laugh as Finn air drummed. When her hand fell away, she was still grinning. Singing made her come alive in a way that nothing else did. She was never as happy as she was when she was singing. And singing with Finn? That just made it better.
Don't stop believing. Hold on to that feeling. Street light, people...
The song was winding and Finn grinned at Santana one last time before they both sang the final two words, "Don't stop." Breathing hard from singing and just the excitement of it, he looked at Santana, unable to stop smiling. He sang a lot in Glee but this felt... special.
Santana met Finn's eyes and the only thing she wanted to do was move into his arms and kiss him. That thought scared her. She couldn't be falling for Finn. She wouldn't let herself. She didn't fall for anyone. Her smile faltered, her walls sliding back up to keep him out. She slid her mic back into its stand, smiled some at the crowd, then grabbed her beer and swigged it as she moved back to her and Finn's table. Shit, she needed to get a grip.
Finn thought he saw her face harden after a few moments of looking at him but that was probably just in his head right? She had looked so happy while they were singing so there was no reason for her to not be anymore. He pushed the thought aside and followed her back to their table. "That was awesome, huh?"
"Yeah," Santana said, her back still to him. She slid back into her seat and crossed her legs, swigging some more beer. She really wished she'd started with something harder. If she drank anything other than beer now, she'd be sick as hell, and it would take a hell of a lot of beer to get her buzzed.
Well that wasn't the reaction Finn had been expecting. He drank some more of his own beer, expecting Santana to turn around and grin at him or something but that wasn't exactly how this was going. "Uh, so what do you want to do now?"
"Make out?" Santana lifted an eyebrow and looked over at him. She really wanted to be kissing him, but it was easier to pretend to be cold about it than to admit how she felt.
Finn wasn't sure if Santana had really just said that but the way she was looking at him made him think she really just had. "Right here?" He raised an eyebrow back at her.
Santana laughed. Was she laughing at him, or herself? She didn't know. "Nevermind." She shook her head and finished off her beer.
Was this disappointment he was feeling? He couldn't be sure. But ever since she had kissed him in his kitchen and ran away again all he wanted was for Santana to want to kiss him. And he probably just blew his shot right there. "Alright then." Now what were they supposed to do.
Santana nodded a little, picking up her beer and taking a swig to give herself something to do. And now she felt awkward as hell. She glanced at him and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Awkward or not, there was a 98% chance she'd go out with him again if he asked. Maybe.
