I liked Looper too - JGL was simply amazing as young Joe - but I expected more after reading so many rave reviews, something more... twisty, maybe a surprise or two at the very end. To me, it felt really straightforward. And JGL's character had to die AGAIN *sigh*
Ditto. JGL was definitely amazing. And it's a well acted, well made film, but it was just missing something for me.
I'd even kept away from reviews because I've had this happen before - rave reviews lead to disappointment - but it was just impossible to miss everything about Looper. But, even so, I came out of the cinema feeling distinctly underwhelmed.
Like you, I found it fairly straightforward. Timey wimey stuff hurts my head, but take away the time travel and it's a fairly simple story.
My friend I saw it with, loved it, best film of the year for him. There's just no way I could put this above Avengers or The Raid.
