Also, if you are apologizing about your spelling and grammar right off the bat and say you don't have time to be going through a beta or spellcheck, etc. TAKE THE TIME.
I know, if you're apologising for you spelling in your post doesn't that mean you already know your fic isn't up to scratch?
I've never been one to have to get my fic out as soon as it's written, sure I get impatient waiting for things to get betaed, but I ignore it because I want what I'm writing to be that much better.
But if someone really can't wait through that process, at least hit the spellcheck button - it only takes a few seconds and really, if you have time to post something, you have time to do the spellcheck.
I'm just awesome that way. Plus, you know, I keep deleting off-topic posts there, that may have something to do with it. ;)
Thank you. You're a good friend. *g*
I have no idea. I mean, I tell people to tag their posts. They whine about not knowing how to tag. I point them toward the explanation (which, incidentally, is linked both from the user info and the sidebar). They whine that they can't delete the "unable to tag" tag. I tell them that yeah, they wouldn't. JUST LIKE IT SAYS IN THE FUCKING EXPLANATION. God.
You, my friend, are a saint. That's all there is to it.
I swear some of them just want you to go round to their houses and do it all for them - 'See? This is how you do a tag; this is how you do a fake cut; this is how you do a lj-cut; this is how you DON'T PISS ME OFF' - kind of thing.
Of course, part of the problem is that Merlin isn't just getting new people into its fandom, it's getting new people into fandom, period. And while some of them do take the time to read the rules, others really don't and then don't get why they are pissing off older (in the sense of having been in fandom for longer - not older age-wise) fans and the mods
( ... )
So. Fucking. Annoying. Especially assholes who say stuff like "I didn't have the time to spellcheck." Why? Because you need to post your fic NOW!OMG and can't even take 2 minutes to click a button in Word and wait???
HAHAHAHAHA! I swear, I'd like to throw a dictionary at half of fandom - purely because a good one would be something big and heavy. =P
What really irritates me most about the whole spellcheck thing is there is no excuse but sheer utter laziness for the most part. Even if you can't do it in your word processor for some reason, LJ has a spellcheck function. And Firefox has a plug-in that checks your spelling as you type.
Truthfully, I'm not a spelling or grammar nazi or anything - grammar errors such as using the wrong 'their/there/they're' will pass through a spellcheck, and I'm more a fan of great ideas than perfect execution - but there is a world of difference to me between 'unbeta'd' and 'I'm a lazy cunt who can't be bothered to use the tools that I have at my disposal to at least ensure my spelling and grammar aren't a crime against the English language'.
I didn't even bother commenting on ionaonie's second peeve because shit, every time I see that it just makes me want to punch the person who wrote it in the face.

Also included is: "I wrote this in 5 minutes LOL" "I didn't get this beta'ed so probably has mistakes LOL!!!" "This is my first fic ever so be gentle with me!!"
I pretty much never read anything with those disclaimers.
If any of those kind of disclaimers are on the fic, I kind of don't read it on principle.
Take the time people, have pride in your work.
If you think a character is OOC, get someone to read it for you - it'll benefit you in the long run.
The ones that amuse and piss me off in equal measure are the ones who get defensive about the fact that they don't use a beta. Pro-writers use betas all the time - they just have different titles in the publishing world, so if they use editors (unless they are called JK Rowling or Laurell K Hamilton - don't get me started on those two *g*), why can't fanfic writers use betas?

If you ever catch me volunteering to mod another comm, please be a friend and bash me unconscious or something until the phase is over.

I'll knock you unconscious if you ever decide to mod a comm again, promise *g*
I mean, rule reading, how is it so difficult?

It's not like it's the 1800s where you have a typewriter and actually need a dictionary.
Might help some of them, though.

For the most part, I can ignore it, but when there are several posts in a row like that, not so much.
And then I need to rant *g*
