17: Calamity

Aug 04, 2010 20:16

[Just as the sun begins to set, when it seems like most of the chaos has subsided, there's suddenly a new sound amidst the cacophony the earthquake has brought. Cries; cries that sound explicitly not human, from roars to gurgles, to battle cries in a foreign tongue. Following these cries are the demons who made them, wanting nothing more than to ( Read more... )

[The release of the power cap was a bit like taking her first full breath of air. She'd spent the day digging people out of the rubble, a tedious but hardly taxing task, but now that dusk had fallen her spiritual senses were buzzing in a way which demanded that she investigate, or else she would not be getting any rest.

So Matsumoto heads towards the source of the loudest buzzing, her eyes peeled for the source.

It's not long until she spots one. Like and yet unlike a Hollow.]

Hello, ugly.

[Now that Hitsugaya's asking questions, she lets some of her attention drift from Naoya - the way those demons had popped up without warning makes her cautious, and if her captain is giving his attention to Naoya, then she can afford to watch out for them.

She wants to know who could control the demons if he can't, and she wants to know just when this little 'experiment' will be over, and she rather desperately wants to put the hilt of her sword sharply into his grin. But she'll wait. Her captain's handling things.]

A scientific one? [He laughs, the simplicity of the answer which he thinks should be apparent, but isn't to Hitsugaya amuses him greatly.]

[The smile subsides, but if only because of Matsumoto, he'll finish the answer. Naoya can tell that she's curious, living for eons tends to give you a good read on people, and at this point he just wants to egg her on.]

I wasn't sure how they would fare here.

[Hitsugaya is unimpressed by this Naoya fellow. He wonders if he'd pay more attention to him if he started waving his sword around and demanding it -- or maybe he'd just let loose the dragon and let Naoya try to ignore Hyourinmaru.]

That's it? [Definitely unimpressed. He glances back at Matsumoto and then raises a brow in Naoya's direction.] Doesn't look like they fare so well.

[Be still her beating heart, was that a veiled compliment? My, my, captain, she'll have to tease you about that later. But not a hint of her pleasure shows on her face.

She can sense more and more demons spilling into Luceti and cleaning them up is going to be a pain. She is entirely unamused at this, and her grip shifts on Haineko's hilt.

She suddenly misses home, where at least she knew the rules of the game.]

What happens when the 'experiment' is over?

[Naoya's response to Hitsugaya is a polite smile.]

I already answered a question of yours before, several, actually. I'm not that generous.

[Then back to the comment Hitsugaya said before:]

It would seem that way. How about this? [In the time it would take a person to snap their fingers, they'll find a dozen or so of the lesser demons from before surrounding them.

But Naoya's not a fool, and he summons both a Garuda and a Behemoth at his sides.

Yet he won't attack either Hitsugaya nor Matsumoto unless pressed, quite pleased just to see what their abilities are.]

[Hitsugaya barely spares a look for the lesser demons around them; it's obvious where the power lies in this group. Go for the head. The rest will follow.

He moves into a flash step -- trusting that Matsumoto will be a split second behind him -- towards Naoya, intending to appear in front of him and catch him with a quick swing of sword. It's not as fast as Naoya's earlier move, but it'll have to do for now. It's not the only trick Hitsugaya has, especially not with the power cap gone.]

[When they appear Matsumoto tenses - A test? - but she doesn't think about this 'Naoya's' motives any further, because her captain is moving forward and she's following.

He'll favor a frontal assault to the 'head,' and she'll back him by moving in from the left in a flanking maneuver.]

Tetrakarn. [So they were going for him.

They'll find that when their swords connect the attack will be bounced back at them by an invisible barrier, and Naoya will again move to teleport out of their range.]

I have no interest in fighting with you.

[In the meantime, the lesser demons will have converged together to let loose a torrent of spells, lighting, fire, and ice at the duo.]

[Damn it, damn it, and damn it. Hitsugaya recovers from failed attack on Naoya in time to see the lesser demons round on them. Fire, he is not fond of, and ice is just not nice to throw at him.

His first instinct is to use demon magic to shield himself as he dodges the worst of that. Without a word, he puts up a shield and gathers the reiatsu he needs for an attack. He throws a destructive spell, Hadou 73 -- without an incantation, thank you, no power cap -- at the horde. If any are resistant to simply raw energy, they'll get through. Anything else caught in that won't be bothering them again.]

[She forms her own shield and steps into the lee of her captain's destructive spell, turning to the side and trusting him with half of her back as she keeps an eye on one of the big uglies.]

[The spells aren't that powerful, even from this horde, so the shields take the brunt of the attack. As for the demons, all of them are obliterated except the Abbadon's who simply plow through, like a huge grotesque wave, attempting to slam them both. They actually seem to have enjoyed the magic, a little.

Naoya in the meantime, will teleport up above their heads. This battle was interesting, but as soon as they dispatched the Abbadon he intended to leave. He had other people to see, and he didn't want to waste too much magic on the pair.]

ooc: Can I just say how useful it is that there are youtube attacks of their spells :O!... I wish SMT had something like that, lol D;.

[Hitsugaya spares a glance for the demons coming at them before his gaze rests on Naoya. Matsumoto took care of these things before; she can do it again. He will not be watched like some rat in a maze.

With a quick shunpo, he's in the air in front of Naoya -- and the wind is starting to blow ever colder. If Naoya thinks he's just going to watch a show, he has another think coming.]

Where are you going?

[If Naoya looks carefully, he might see ice starting to form along the blade. You've pissed off the captain, Naoya.]

[[ooc; They do come in pretty handy. I have several in my bookmarks for just such occasions.]]

[Ah. Good.]

Growl, Haineko.

[A whirlwind of ash heads towards the remaining demons, the cycling motion picking them up and tearing them apart in the same movement.]

[Naoya senses it rather than notices it-- being attuned to magic.]

Elsewhere-- as you can tell, I'm a bit busy at the moment.

Besides, don't you have the other demons to take care of? [He's almost hesitant to cast a spell.]

But before I do, your names? A courtesy is courtesy.

[ooc: He's probably gonna try to bolt next exchange. He knows he has Batman to care care of, lol D;. Though there is always next time~]
