Sorry for the delay...

So I'm loving the way this fic is illuminating each show through the observations of the other show's characters. It's interesting to see Jake Kane, bitter and vengeful still, wearing his grievances on his sleeve, and completely obvious to John. (What, really, did Veronica do to Jake? {in canon and here} Someone of his wealth and connections--she should be a buzzing gnat to him, that he brushes away, yet he's just as paranoid and obsessive as always. I guess she's the locus of his bitterness about losing his children, but isn't that sort of missing the point regarding both of them? However, that's human nature, to lash out at the easy target instead of examining your own responsibility. It's easy to imagine Jake and Celeste stewing in their resentment over life's disappointments and tragedies and coming to an agreement that it's all that girl's fault ( ... )

Sorry for my delay in replying.

Yes, I was going with the Jake Kane we see in the finale. I guess he had the whole 2nd and 3rd season to get that bitter.

I guess she's the locus of his bitterness about losing his children, but isn't that sort of missing the point regarding both of them?

But then he and Celeste always did seem to miss the point of them even when they were still together as a family, too.

I've always wondered if he sees Veronica as lost to him as well, since there was a possibility that she could have been his daughter. If they'd never confirmed that she was or wasn't then he could at least have the fantasy that she might be. And maybe that's her fault, too...

Also, really well-edited.

I have amazing betas! I will let them know you think so. :)

And your plot is certainly VM-worthy (and Sherlock-worthy as well) in its complexity. Hope you're having fun writing it!*blush* Thank you! ( ... )
