Who: Minister Rufus Scrimgeour and Pyrite
When: Wednesday, November 19, afternoon
Where: Rufus' office at the Ministry
What: Pyrite seeks Rufus out, mentions his concerns, makes a few suggestions and the two come to an agreement of sorts
*Pyrite*
The man in the dark cloak stepped into Rufus's office, limping slightly.
"Excuse me, Minister... Do you have a moment? I think we need to talk?
*Rufus*
He looked up, trying to conceal the surprise from his face.
"Of course. Please, have a seat," he said.
*Pyrite*
He shook his head.
"I'd rather stand if it's all the same to you... My leg's a little stiff from being healed... Been in a couple scrapes over the past few days..."
*Rufus*
He nodded.
"I understand, of course. I have those days. Something besides the attack at Hogwarts?" he asked.
*Pyrite*
He smiled coldly.
"Nothing I'm at liberty to discuss of course. You know how it is..."
*Rufus*
"Ah yes. And how is dear Minister Umbridge?" he asked. "Well, I hope. "
*Pyrite*
He paced slightly.
"Well... I'd like to thank you if you had any part in playing up my role in the Hogwarts incident... The nurses at Mungo's were very friendly once they found out I'd been defending the poor innocents..."
*Rufus*
"I do what I can," he said with a small smile, taking a sip from his cup.
"What can I do for you?"
*Pyrite*
He took a breath.
"It's about Umbridge. She's under a lot of stress... She's going to pieces and not slowly either... it's only a matter of time before she gets me killed, to be honest. And they way I see it... You're in charge of security now... I should be answering to you... Discretely of course... That is, if you need someone else."
*Rufus*
The corner of his mouth lifted slightly in a smile.
"Indeed. Well, we are rather short staffed at the moment. A man of your expertise would certainly be.... appreciated."
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"I thought I might be... Weishaupt could be had too... For the right price, he's a mercenary at heart. And if you brought Mari over... You could probably control Seamus through her... The whole situation is just waiting to fall apart and just the right shove could make things fall just the right way..."
*Rufus*
He raised the corner of his mouth higher.
"Indeed."
He paused and took a sip from his cup.
"That would be very advantageous indeed. Well, I assure you that I would never intentionally send my men to their death. I'm an Auror first and foremost, still," he explained, as though anyone needed reminding of his status as a war hero.
"Money we have, so Weishaupt shouldn't be a problem. What about Mari? How could we bring her over?"
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"Of course not. Your reputation precedes you... As mine precedes me. Honestly, Mari's openly disgruntled... The right word in her mother's ear and then make her your assistant. A raise or something to secure it.. She'd relish working for someone sane.”
*Rufus*
"I'm sure Alessandra could always use another hand around the office.." he said, thinking aloud.
"Well, I suppose I shall have to meet with Mrs. Edgecombe and Marietta."
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"Running the country is hard work... And many hands make light work. But don't let me tell you how to run things, Minister... I'm sure you know what's best."
*Rufus*
"Your help will certainly be appreciated," he reassured Pyrite.
"I must say, I am a bit surprised. "
*Pyrite*
He smiled coldly again.
"I take people by surprise. It's a valuable skill in my profession."
*Rufus*
"I was not aware of the .... unrest among Umbridge's employees. However it seems you are well aware of my intentions, along with most of the Wizengamot, I presume," he said simply, not trusting Pyrite, but he would certainly be a valuable addition to the team.
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"Of course. I am Umbridge's eyes and ears. Keeping an eye on people intentions leads to a long career, I hope... And I am so enjoying my newfound legitimacy."
*Rufus*
"Do you plan on being my eyes and ears now?" he asked curiously.
*Pyrite*
He shrugged.
"Umbridge had one use for me. If you find me useful in that capacity I would be honoured to continue... If you have another task for me, then... As I said, far be it from me to tell you how to run the country."
*Rufus*
He nodded.
"Of course. Shall we keep this all under the table for now?" he asked.
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"It'd probably be more useful to you at the moment to keep it that way... Before she decides to give Weishaupt a raise to off me..."
*Rufus*
He nodded.
"How much do you thing it'll cost to buy off Weishaupt?" he asked.
*Pyrite*
He shrugged.
"You'd have to ask him. Not a lot, he's gotten worse the past couple days than I have. But do your self a favour and don't go bargain hunting. I've seen the bastard fight up close now... and he's good with Dark Creatures..."
*Rufus*
"Well, as long as he isn't one, we shouldn't have a problem," he said coldly. There was money in the bank. And after all, he was a master of getting money for doing nothing. It ran in the family.
"I'm not looking for bargains. I'm looking for the best. I expect nothing less from my men. I want loyalty, dedication and perfection. Is that clear?"
*Pyrite*
He smiled coldly.
"Keep me alive, well paid, and out of Azkaban in that order... And I'll be as loyal, dedicated, and perfect as anyone else in your organization."
*Rufus*
"Speaking of compensation. I assume you're planning on staying on Umbridge's payroll. I would, of course, give you something additional. What would be ideal?" he asked.
*Pyrite*
The smile didn't leave his face.
"A discrete sum, deposited into one of my more discrete accounts at Gringott's."
*Rufus*
He nodded, praying he wasn't being set up.
"Leave the information with Alessandra and it'll be taken care of. "
*Pyrite*
He nodded.
"Of course. She can be trusted, I assume..."
*Rufus*
"Completely," he reassured Pyrite.
"One of the few who can."
*Pyrite*
"Understood."
He nodded, making a note not to trust Alessandra. He prayed he wasn't being set up but it couldn't be worse than being eviscerated by Dark Creatures.
*Rufus*
"I"ll be in touch. Let me know if you find out anything," he said.
*Pyrite*
He bowed slightly.
"Of course."
And with that he excused himself.
