Type Interactions #9: INTJ-ENTP [archived]

Mar 05, 2007 06:15

While it is wonderful to sit around and discuss how amazing we INTJs are, there are other types in the world and we generally have to deal with them more than with fellow INTJs. As a result I will be making weekly posts about how INTJs interact with others to get feedback on the experiences we INTJs have had with other types and how we've learned ( Read more... )

1. P the ENTP--P was a grad student in my department who joined the department (history of science) 2 years after me. P has already finished up and got a post-doc and now just got a tenure track job. P also came from a family of professors and double majored in mathematics and physics at Harvard as an undergrad. P had a very dry sense of humor. P and I got along fairly well, but we were never realy close. P always seeme dto want to project two different images of himself--one that was that of the elite East-Coaster who was refined and would have fit right in within the social upper crust in the novel "The Great Gatsby"--and the other(in more private conversations) of someone who was a lot less secure about himself and who was very self-effacing... After all this time, I still don't know whether any of these projected images were particularly valid--P was too closed to really let himself show... (despite being garrulous within a social setting ( ... )

I rented a room from an ENTP, who we will call Dan. Dan is one year older than me; we went to school together, but weren't friends until after we had both graduated. Dan had purchased a house as an investment, commandeered the master bedroom and rented out the other three rooms to help with mortgage payments; it was an interesting crew (INTJ, ENTP, ISTJ, INFx ( ... )

It was like a really tame version of the relationship shared between Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady- though they weren't NTs, of course.

> After breaking out and clearing off the seam, it's time for the INTJ to step in, to perform thier best role as miner, filing the right forms with the right authorities, getting the contacts for labour, supplies and infrastructure, organising the roster and actually getting to with the job of digging up the gold.

You're better off with an ISTJ for that. If you're sticking an INTJ with paperwork, regulations, and networking (all very much in the SJ realm), no wonder you're getting power struggles. We can do it if we have to, but for the most part, we'd probably prefer not to, and there are better types for such things.

You did notice the exit strategy in that example no ?

In hindsight, yeah, I guess the exit strategy is for both persons involved.

Yes, I did. It'd be interesting for one mine. Possibly two if the first was very successful.

Oh, I forgot about this. A less than scientific declaration about the superiority of ENTPs.
