What kind of razor are you using? It seems like that would be as important as the cream/gel and the manner in which it's applied.

I know some people who still get the olde straight-razor treatment at the barber because they swear it's the best shave you can get. Maybe they're just nostalgic. I don't know.

i use the mach 3 turbo... otherwise known as the piece of plastic that forces you into buying a 15 dollar item every month or two.

I used a three-blade for awhile but found that that amount of friction irritated my skin. Now I just use little plastic two-bladers. And I use disposable ones because, ironically, if bought in bulk at a place like Costco it's cheaper than buying those expensive blades for the fancy-pants razors.

P.S. Did you see this post that I made? It seemed like the kind of thing you, given your taste in music, would be interested in.

the non-recyclability of disposables makes me feel too guilty about using them. altho there are recyclines

I apparently can't shave anymore. After a few years of keeping a short beard, if I shave it clean off, after about 3-4 days of shaving I get massive irritation and ingrown hairs.

Of course, I get very little exercise...

i think it's got to be the sweating...?

you just reminded me that i had a dream last night that i had a massive, massive beard. like, resting on your shoulders + chest kind of beard. i also had a dream that a dog came through an open window in our house and bit the fuck out of my neck. hmm.

I don't shave the hair below my skin line. I don't hairbumps when I do that simple task.

The only thing I find wrong with your theory is the simple fact that most blacks get hairbumps when they shave to close. The Army works out it's men, and I'm sure enough of them sweat lots, but sometime in the mid 80's they too stopped making blacks shave everyday because of the incidents of hairbumps and infection.

But if running and sweating kills yours more power to you...

I'll stick to close but not to close shaving. Personally I use the sideburn attachment on electric shavers..
