Word. So word. One of the classes I'm taking this fall is Women & Gender Studies 101. I was so relieved my first class by my professor defining a "Woman" as anyone who identifies themselves as female. I knew from stuff she does around campus that she thinks of herself as a "feminist," but I didn't know, even with the "& Gender" part of the class name, how she was actually going to treat transsexuals.
It seems that everyone defines feminism differently, which leads to a lot of infighting. :( Thankfully I got lucky, since I took a really good Women's Lit class while I was at university which had a great professor and a diverse reading selection that introduced me to cool authors like Gloria E. Anzaldúa~ ♥
Yeah, the first time I read it I was more heartbroken by Nuriko's cut hair than Nuriko's death. I knew the cut hair was a baaad sign.

Yeah. I occasionally get the urge to put a post up on Tumblr just pointing out that, while there are even two definitions of "feminism" in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, neither one of the definitions of "feminism" says that a feminist defines what it is to be a woman. I mean for the record, the definitions are: "1) the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, 2) organized activity in support of women's rights and interests." By the first definition what a "woman" is shouldn't even matter because everyone should be equal, and by the second the important thing isn't what a "woman" is, but that their rights and interests are supported. The infighting is so stupid.
