Various Rants

Dec 31, 2009 10:19

And so we come to the last day of the year. **yawn.** New Year's has never been a big thing for us, and I am honestly often cynical about the holiday to begin with. It's just one day changing to the next. What's the big deal? The new year never feels any different immediately anyway. One of Mom's childhood friends actually said she liked New Year's ( Read more... )

True about the new year not feeling any different... And that is surprising about your mom's friend. **blinks** I don't even celebrate the religious aspects of Christmas, but still adore the Christmas season because it always means some sort of family reunion. X3 ( ... )

**nodnod.** Christmas is an awesome family time. X3 And I've been curious, do you use Christmas trees or any kinds of decorations that would work for the more secular aspects? Or do you pretty much just give gifts ( ... )

X3 We have a little fiberoptic tree, but that's about it... My sister put up a huge tree and lights, but that was more for the kids. ^^ **was stunned to hear that some school district somewhere banned any and all Christmas decorations, even secular ones, because of fears of offending non-Christians.** Um... whut?Tue. ^^ There was one time during the Orichalcos ar that bugged me though... After the rooftop duel fiasco in Duelist Kingdom, when Yugi said that he wasn't sure if he could trust Atem again, Atem said during the battle with Mai, "I vow never to go against your wishes again." But he still played the Seal during the duel with Raphael, even after Yugi repeatedly pleaded for him not to, breaking that vow... And that was one of the times in the anime that Atem really annoyed me ( ... )

**nodnod.** Fiber optic is pretty. X3 That is just so *stupid.* And in their attempts to "make it better" for others, they take away the free agency of everyone who likes Christmas decorations! Things like that are really a sore spot for me. They should stay out of people's business! The people that don't like Christmas decorations don't have to do anything with them. -.-

Oooh. ;___; Of course, my first thought is, did they have that conversation in the original? If it's dub-only, I'd say it wouldn't necessarily count; it only would if you wanted it to. But in any case, him playing the Seal when Yugi begged him not to was horrible. A lot of people don't like that arc because they think Atem was OOC. I'm not sure that he necessarily was; it just showed a darker side to him.

Maybe he wanted to get at Joey by saying it?

**nodnod.** Supposedly Keith was revived to take part in the project, says Wikipedia. But as long as no one's expressing surprise in canon, I say he never died.

And that is a very logical reason for excitement. X3 Yay! Happy birthday to your mom ( ... )

Fun! I love incense and scented candles. X3

Known as season 0 by fans, but that is really incorrect, since it isn't connected to the main anime series. If it was, events from the first series wouldn't have been redone for the Duel Monsters one, such as Shadi's and Bakura's introductions.

If you're brave enough, it's on YouTube. XD But I like it even less than the manga. What was done to Seto is an outrage. He outright murdered Gozaburo. .___. Compare that with the original manga, where Gozaburo killed himself and seeing that is what messed Seto up so much. (And then of course, in the Duel Monsters anime, he disappeared/died and his spirit turned up in Noa's world. My favorite version.)

The gym teacher claimed it was a rule at Domino that guys couldn't have long hair. But it looks like he was lying, considering Yugi and Duke....

I always sort of liked Anzu strictly on the grounds that she has to be a pretty ballsy chick to have THREE GUYS as her best friends (I actually liked her less in the first series when she had a Miho to pal around with...but then, Anzu was pretty aggravating in that series, in general >_>; )...but that amusement park chapter is so urrrrrrrrrrrgh. >_< She doesn't even talk about friendship that much in the original...the Yuugis and Jounouchi do it WAY more, but fangirls conveniently overlook that. .__.

I always figured the gym teacher was making it up, just trying to bully the pretty new kid muahahahah bet he didn't try THAT again.

Does your mom's friend party really hard on New Year's, or something? o.o

...I had more to say, but my Advil PM is finally kcking in, and everything's getting all swimmy, so, uh, I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow, probably!

I haven't seen enough of that series to determine whether I like her in it, as I find that series aggravating in general, LOL. When I do want to see any of those storylines, I usually go to the manga. **really disliked the changes made to Bakura's intro story!**

I always wondered about that. XD; When I mentioned that about the Yugis/Atem one time, an intelligent Téa-disliker said something like Atem talked about friendship in a different way/that it sounded more honorable/something. I don't know how much she'd seen of the original at that time; once she said that the Japanese version made Téa tolerable, and I think at that time she'd only seen some of the episodes available in the uncut dub. Maybe if she saw more she'd come to like Téa, though I kind of suspect Téa would never be a favorite for her. XD;

I wonder if he steadfastly tried to avoid Bakura altogether. XD

I doubt she did; this was something told to Mom when they were both kids. XD

Hope you have a good sleep!

I honestly don't know why everyone squees over the first series. It's really, really not that good...it's mostly a condensed reimagining of the early manga chapters, but everything is really formulaic and makes everyone look two-dimensional by comparison. And I will never, ever get used to janitor!Honda. o_x;;;

...in all honesty Dark Yuugi was one of the characters I initially disliked (I think I'm alone on that side of the fence) because he was so totally arrogant about things...I was actually okay with Anzu, and much moreso once I started reading the manga...until the amusement park chapter. But, BUT she made up for it during Duelist Kingdom in the manga, and in the last chapter, even if they changed it for the anime.

Not just Bakura, but ALL the pretty new transfer students...he didn't go after Otogi, did he? XD "Long hair AND makeup! We'll see about that...*flashbacks*...later, maybe."

Hm...maybe New Year's has...um...fireworks?

I'm awake now!...but the Internet is absolutely dead tonight. D:

**nods.** Every episode I saw of it, I preferred the manga version far more. And Yami Bakura's voice ... ! Did not want. He whined, and he screamed like a girl. Okay, his DM VAs probably girl-screamed too, since they *were* girls, but yeah.

I've actually met a lot of people who don't like him for that reason. XD Though I can't think of any of them now. I was always okay with him, but then I'm usually okay with most characters in anything. They have to do a lot to get me mad at them/downright disliking them.

The very last chapter? **was thinking it played out the same.** Or do you mean the last chapter of the Duelist Kingdom arc?

LOL!

Hmm, maybe. XD She'd have to be a pretty obsessed fireworks fan, though.

Yeah, I was gone for hours. Just got back a short bit ago. XD

XD Well, I don't understand liking New Year's better than Christmas, unless it's like the Japanese or Chinese holiday. But I always kinda considered it to be the second most important holiday, after Christmas. I guess that was just because it meant that a whole other year had passed, and there were going to be new things, and things would be different. I guess it was more symbolic, than anything that had to do with celebrating the holiday itself, since we never really did much except snack on various foods throughout the day and stay up late. Maybe it was originally the staying up late that kinda made it special, since we weren't allowed to do that otherwise, as younger kids. (Even though I routinely started to stay up late on weekends later on in high school/college, and now do it almost any time I can sleep in the next day. XD) I dunno, I like New Year's, though it's also kind of a sad holiday, because it always means that vacation/holiday time is over. XD ( ... )

**nods.** My mom figured it was the staying up late part that her friend liked. I get the symbolism and all that, but it's just ... never been that exciting to me. XD; Now, if we celebrated like the Japanese and Chinese do, I would probably be very excited. X3

Yeah, they all did something wrong, but sometimes the punishment seemed a little off-balance. o.o Like what Northeastwind mentioned up there about someone stealing a watch and his hand being cut off. .___. Though I have heard that was a real punishment in some ancient culture, maybe even Egypt.

**hugs Yami Bakura.**

**snarks.** Yes, you should read it all. X3

Looks like probably the creep was just bullying Bakura and it wasn't an actual rule of the school. o.o

XD Yeah, I guess I can't say I was really *excited* about New Year's exactly, especially since it was the end of the holiday. But since it was a holiday, I always saw it as a good thing. XD I wish we celebrated like the Chinese do! That would be so awesome! X3 And LOL, I've been idly considering celebrating some of their holidays myself. Though New Year's would be difficult, since what really makes that exciting is everyone else celebrating it too. XD ( ... )

Totally! I was just thinking how fun it would be to have an Oriental New Year's celebration. X3

I'm not sure. o.o It may have been an illusion.

It might sound awful, but yeah, I kind of agree that those horrible people hurting the girl got what they deserved. XD; They deserved to see what it felt like. The other punishments still sound too harsh to me, but I can kind of see from their POV. o.o

The only thing I can figure out is that he was mad because all the girls loved Bakura and were flocking around him. XD;
