Various Rants

Dec 31, 2009 10:19

And so we come to the last day of the year. **yawn.** New Year's has never been a big thing for us, and I am honestly often cynical about the holiday to begin with. It's just one day changing to the next. What's the big deal? The new year never feels any different immediately anyway. One of Mom's childhood friends actually said she liked New Year's ( Read more... )

I always sort of liked Anzu strictly on the grounds that she has to be a pretty ballsy chick to have THREE GUYS as her best friends (I actually liked her less in the first series when she had a Miho to pal around with...but then, Anzu was pretty aggravating in that series, in general >_>; )...but that amusement park chapter is so urrrrrrrrrrrgh. >_< She doesn't even talk about friendship that much in the original...the Yuugis and Jounouchi do it WAY more, but fangirls conveniently overlook that. .__.

I always figured the gym teacher was making it up, just trying to bully the pretty new kid muahahahah bet he didn't try THAT again.

Does your mom's friend party really hard on New Year's, or something? o.o

...I had more to say, but my Advil PM is finally kcking in, and everything's getting all swimmy, so, uh, I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow, probably!

I haven't seen enough of that series to determine whether I like her in it, as I find that series aggravating in general, LOL. When I do want to see any of those storylines, I usually go to the manga. **really disliked the changes made to Bakura's intro story!**

I always wondered about that. XD; When I mentioned that about the Yugis/Atem one time, an intelligent Téa-disliker said something like Atem talked about friendship in a different way/that it sounded more honorable/something. I don't know how much she'd seen of the original at that time; once she said that the Japanese version made Téa tolerable, and I think at that time she'd only seen some of the episodes available in the uncut dub. Maybe if she saw more she'd come to like Téa, though I kind of suspect Téa would never be a favorite for her. XD;

I wonder if he steadfastly tried to avoid Bakura altogether. XD

I doubt she did; this was something told to Mom when they were both kids. XD

Hope you have a good sleep!

I honestly don't know why everyone squees over the first series. It's really, really not that good...it's mostly a condensed reimagining of the early manga chapters, but everything is really formulaic and makes everyone look two-dimensional by comparison. And I will never, ever get used to janitor!Honda. o_x;;;

...in all honesty Dark Yuugi was one of the characters I initially disliked (I think I'm alone on that side of the fence) because he was so totally arrogant about things...I was actually okay with Anzu, and much moreso once I started reading the manga...until the amusement park chapter. But, BUT she made up for it during Duelist Kingdom in the manga, and in the last chapter, even if they changed it for the anime.

Not just Bakura, but ALL the pretty new transfer students...he didn't go after Otogi, did he? XD "Long hair AND makeup! We'll see about that...*flashbacks*...later, maybe."

Hm...maybe New Year's has...um...fireworks?

I'm awake now!...but the Internet is absolutely dead tonight. D:

**nods.** Every episode I saw of it, I preferred the manga version far more. And Yami Bakura's voice ... ! Did not want. He whined, and he screamed like a girl. Okay, his DM VAs probably girl-screamed too, since they *were* girls, but yeah.

I've actually met a lot of people who don't like him for that reason. XD Though I can't think of any of them now. I was always okay with him, but then I'm usually okay with most characters in anything. They have to do a lot to get me mad at them/downright disliking them.

The very last chapter? **was thinking it played out the same.** Or do you mean the last chapter of the Duelist Kingdom arc?

LOL!

Hmm, maybe. XD She'd have to be a pretty obsessed fireworks fan, though.

Yeah, I was gone for hours. Just got back a short bit ago. XD

I was facepalming especially hard during the whole puzzle-message episode...they all ran about like that, but I think that was the first one that gave me an out-and-out "wait, wut?" moment. ...hah, didn't he even have a male VA for a change, in that one? XD

Really? XD I've only ever known one, but since she was one of the first people I could ever discuss the series yet, I thought maybe the point-of-view was more widespread...*coughs* Disabused of that notion pretty quickly. But I'm not much of a character-hater, either...usually the worst I get to is a sense of "...ehhhhhn" when certain characters show up.

Very last chapter...or second-to-last, wherever it is that Dark Yuugi/Nameless Pharaoh/Atem-by-that-point goes to the afterlife. Anime-Anzu was all sniffly about it, whereas manga-Anzu was more accepting, and it seemed more like manga-Anzu stood more of a chance with Yuugi after that.

Fireworks and party-poppers and...silly string! We always used to get silly string to spray around at midnight.

Think you'll be on ( ... )

I'm not sure I'm familiar with the puzzle-message one in either the first series or the manga.... **knows the most about Shadi's and Bakura's intros, though she does know some about some of the other stuff, like Capsule Monsters and Death-T, etc.** Bleh, manga Mokuba ... definitely a character I often go "ehhhh" about. **thinks he was much cuter in the anime.**

And irony of ironies, I think Yami Bakura did have a male VA in the first series. XD I'm not sure which is worse: to have an actual girl VA, or to have a male VA that screams like a girl and whines. LOL. I love that Ted Lewis made him sound like a real man. XD; The little kid voices for guys are cute, but it's honestly not something I've ever been a fan of in any anime, and I definitely don't think it's fitting for Yami Bakura.

Huh. I was sure that she cried in the manga version too, and asked why he had to leave/why it had to be that way. I was surprised reading the manga version, because it seemed to be very close to the anime version, even the dub anime version.

LOL.

Errrrr it's the only chapter in the manga that has Miho in it. But the first series had a random girl buying the puzzle for Jounouchi, and the subplot was abandoned in favor of Anzu trying to get the school-rules lessened, and then it fell into the typical "Dark Yuugi challenges the villain to a game, villain cheats, Dark Yuugi punishes them" cookiecutter plot. ...anime!Mokuba's not that different from manga!Mokuba though. Anime!Mokuba's just later Mokuba...*saw a really good fic that bridged the two awhile back*

Well, when you get right down to it, Bakura was pretty feminine-looking, so... I think we discussed it once before, but have you heard his Spanish voice?

I just remember a lot of people complaining when the last episode was released, saying they changed Anzu too much. o.o;;

It took me an hour to type this just because the room's so cold I had to keep defrosting my hands between lines. XD That's...probably not good.

Ahhh. .___. Dang. **headdesk.**

I dunno, I keep trying to like manga Mokuba, but he keeps seeming like a brat, or at least obnoxious, even later on, whereas anime Mokuba never gave me that vibe. XD; Maybe it's more translation errors. I'd be interested in seeing the fic. ^^

I should put the Spanish language on my DVD and watch Evil Spirit of the Ring that way. XD I think I watched it in Spanish once, but that was years ago.

Huh. Interesting.

Eeep. .___.

Okay, I watched Evil Spirit of the Ring in Spanish! I actually liked Yami Bakura's voice, for the most part: deep and growly, just what appeals to me for him. X3 (I could listen to Ted Lewis voice him for hours on end....) However, he did deliver some lines in way too much of a monotone. And Bakura's voice ... too deep for such a little cutie! Tristan's voice was very weird and whiny. And Yugi's voice was odd. Joey and Téa were okay, but I didn't entirely like some of their line deliveries, either.
