I know that this is one of the major unanswered questions, and there's been some speculation about some (unclear) answers from someone in the lj_biz post. Well, as soon as the post went up and I saw that there wasn't an answer, I sent in a support request with the exact wording from the open letter:

Is posting a link to prohibited content that is ( Read more... )

Wow. I'd really thought they couldn't make their official positions any crazier. I'm... well, I'm torn between depressed, impressed, and disturbed. Geez.

From the TOS: Content includes "text, data, messages, or information concerning or linked to software, music, sound, photography, graphics, and video" that may "reside on LiveJournal's servers or on the servers of a third party".

Which means that even if ponderosa and elaboration's fanart were hosted by another site/server and only a url link was posted in their journal or community, they would still be violating the TOS.

The direct policy you're linking probably is limited to acts completely occuring off-LJ such as sending spam e-mail to another LJ user.

Ugh. These people are fucking idiots. It's like nobody on their so-called Abuse Team knows how to communicate with each other.

But I'll give them this: For all the whining we do when they don't get back to us in a timely manner, THANK GOD they all shut up for a second! There was one person in particular doing more damage on the lj_biz post than good, apparently in the name of LJ. Would have been nice if they could have, oh, figured out a real policy in the several days we were in the dark, but that's apparently too much to ask. Too many Abuse Team members making shit up, too many people to clean up after.

I would be SHOCKED if nobody gets fired after this. Shoddy customer service, complete absence of public relations, absolutely no consistency within the teams... LJ is a laughingstock.
